I've actually thought about it before. I'm a nurse, but if I was the type they were looking for, I probably would've been there already. I have nothing to tie me down to the city I'm currently living in, so, why not?

Another safer option is Saudi Arabia. They're looking for people, too. Monster.com and whatnot has a Saudi/UAE site. You can make a lot of money there, and just save it all and spend it somewhere else. People work in Saudi Arabia for a couple years and come home with lots of cash.

If you really want something, try with the United Nations.

On another board about a year ago, one of the regulars posted something about a friend of his who was hired by the United Nations to be a midlevel manager somewhere in Southeast Asia.

Not only was the work minimal, but the pay was awesome and 100% tax free.

You list your location as Beirut ,Lebanon. Is Kabul that much worse than Beirut?

Maybe same difference between US and Nigeria.

My uncle worked in Afghanistan for a while. I think he was delivering goods for the armed forces and he was teaching other workers how to use some of the heavy machinery (I think). He said he was paid quite well. not sure if I would go (probably because I'm an atheist and a woman).

I am atheist too, culturally-Muslim, but surely I wouldn't tell them I am one there.

From what I've read, it's alright if you are solely motivated by money and have no other considerations and are indifferent to the nature of the country where you're working or their human rights record.

As for SA, from what I've read on the country, there is almost nothing to do there outside the compounds and Wahhabi Islam (one of the most repressive strains of Islam on the planet) is dominant there, and Saudi Arabia is in another league for totalitarian religious repression compared to places like Bahrain and the UAE. To add to that, Saudi women are treated like subhumans, alcohol and practising any religion that isn't Islam is illegal and apostasy is punishable by death (consider the case of the Christians arrested for praying in a private house, that was in the news this week) and public executions by beheading are happening twice a week now.

Personally, I wouldn't go there - the place sounds horrible. Most of the UAE looks a fair bit more tolerable (and tolerant), so I'd choose that over Saudi or Afghanistan. While not perfect, at least you can get a drink there legally and life looks considerably more relaxed than in, say, Saudi Arabia or Yemen. I'd probably go there on holiday if there was stuff to do besides shopping centres and it was cheaper.

I would do it, if I wasn't married.

I won't do it if it's Afghanistan.

The american army is withdrawing soon, the only force which was backing off the Taliban from Kabul.

It doesn't require a genius mind to predict the outcome of this withdrawal - the taliban will take control again of the whole country.

If you are unlucky, you could be kidnaped and they have no hesitation to decapitate you. People from my country have been kidnaped and beheaded by some of the terrorists in countries like Iraq etc. Also, my colleague told me people from her country was misunderstood by them and got beheaded. Even if they know that you are a completely innocent person, they will still kill you without hesitation for their own reasons. Those terrorists are crazy. Nothing is worth risking your life for. While I know the majority of the regular people there are good people, a small number of crazy people make the place very dangerous. I would never even consider going to those countries. It's a pity, though, because those countries' cultures seem so interesting.

Except the Taliban isn't really a small number of crazy people, dozens of them are being killed http://warnewstoday.blogspot.com/ every day and so, it's a popular group in many areas there.

Also, Lebanese people are often commonly seen as Christians or Shiaa in the Middle-East - both hated by Taliban and Qaeda.

Yeah, people from certain countries are in greater risk than others, such as US people etc. I guess those Middle Eastern people who are from countries that are seen as pro-west could also be considered as traitors. I have seen a Lebanese TV drama here and I could see in it a lot of influence by the west. But whatever the nationality, I am tempted to advise anyone against going to those locations for whatever purpose.

Nothing on earth would make me go somewhere like that. Anywhere there is such great risk and laws is totally unattractive to me, no matter how much money is involved. You can't predict what will happen, and that pay cheque won't comfort you if you find yourself in a situation there is no return from. Like they say, "you can't take it with you".
