My automatic response would probably have been something like "not my fault"...

I once described my antipathy towards unwanted social interaction to an NT acquaintance, who was puzzled as to why I felt this way. I said, Imagine you are sitting in your living room, minding your own business. You have a window open, to catch a breeze. A complete stranger comes to the window, sticks his head in, and says something like, "Cheer up! Why so glum?" Or, "Hey what are you doing in there?" That is how outrageous some of these intrusions feel to me!

I always think of a million obnoxious/sarcastic things that I *could* say in response to things like that, but usually just say "yep" and walk off, lol.

The best thing to say is either "yeah it is" if you agree, and "what? I think it's a nice day" if you disagree.

My problem with agreeing or disagreeing is it can easily spark a conversation. I can tolerate small talk to an extent, but I don't understand the point or why someone would want to talk to me who doesn't know me.

Last time I agreed with someone about the weather, they went into details about how they were going to go gardening and stuff. While they were talking, I inched away, very slowly, while thinking "and you are telling me this why?" but I just said "have fun" and left.

I just shrug and maybe nod or grunt in response. Lets them know you're acknowledging their presence but also that you're not interested in talking. They'll leave you alone.

Rain is wasted on people like that. You have no idea how much I wish it would rain here. Every day is the same stupid bright cloudless "beautiful day" that makes everyone go around talking about what a beautiful day it is, but all it does is singe my retinas and bake my skin. I need some rain, man.

Oh, if you wanted to be "NT," you'd just say to that person "yeah it is," but if you were me you'd say nothing and fantasize about punching them in the nose.

I don’t bother replying with a pointed finger; how’d they know if it was a horrible day for me or not?

To which you reply: 'I know, hopefully it will stop soon'

It's basic human friendliness, it doesn't have an ulterior motive and can not always be measured in logic. Just go with the flow.
