instead of having one controlling interest, i have many, which i pursue in depth; often a chance encounter will lead me into investigating, even for years. there are a lot of overlaps between the subjects i like (i think of it as "map-making"), & i never lose interest in anything i have once investigated, but after i have learned a lot there's not much more i can find out. i guess i'm just in love with the learning process itself.

I can be very empathetic, I don't have a set schedule or routine I have to follow, I have many interests that I get "obsessed" with, rather than just one singular interest I focus on, and I'm sure there are others I can't think of right now.

I think for me most of these contradictay traits are due to overlapping adhd symptoms.

You're right. From what I understand, the following are all ADHD traits:

Quote:
- I can be very extraverted. I can make eye contact, make friends, and feel comfortable in social situations. However I still have trouble understanding social situations and body language and am often told I come off as weird.

- I dont like to do the same things everyday. However I don't like it when someone else makes unexpected plans for me.

- I'm very sensation seeking and am always looking for action as opposed to the avoidant aspie who doesnt leave their house. I get bored easily and like to keep myself going.

- I'm hyposensitive to senses and emotion as opposed to the highly sensitive aspie. However bright lights bother me.

However, this:

Quote:
- My nonverbal IQ is higher than my verbal IQ. I have superior visual spacial skills (rated 99th percentile on the IQ test) but I am not the best reader.

Is not contradictory with autism spectrum at all. In fact, both VIQ > PIQ and PIQ > VIQ are much more common in autistics than non-autistics.

There is a trend for VIQ > PIQ to be associated with no speech delay, and PIQ > VIQ to be associated with speech delay, though not always.

Also, I smile a lot.
According to the stereotype, autistics never (or very rarely) smile.

Most of these stereotypes comes from the world of children.

People who keep propagating those stereotypes seem oblivious to the fact that people develop beyond that stage to another stage called grown up.

I hate routine, I hate things being the same all the time, I like new things, what I dislike are 1. sudden changes in plans 2. the loss of something that already exists

I don't really have explosive meltdowns, when something is stressing me I usually just go stim crazy and start pacing, and I don't do it in front of other people. I can usually pick up on sarcasm well and understand figures of speech, in fact sarcasm is my primary form of humour.
