I have to question the validity of this test and of the disorder in general--many, if not every, "symptom" could be due to a multitude of other things. It says that I may have ODD...though I answered that I NEVER outright defy other adults. In fact, I was described as relatively obedient as a child and am even more passive now (which may not entirely be a good thing). What I answered affirmative to were things such as irritability and difficulty with peer relations--items that can be tied to almost any other disorder in the DSM.

Ha, yes. I admit it's being pretty awkward, but whenever I'm expected to do something from any societal source, a part of my brain says "nope, you're not controlling me!" and I defy whatever it is I "should" do. Do not expect things. Do not drive a conformist society.

If you bring it up as a possibility or give me a logical request, however, I will comply.

It says I don't have it now.

If I fill it out regarding my behavior at my first school (6-9 years) it says maybe.

Personally, I think ODD is not a useful diagnosis. It should be scrapped and replaced with a variety of diagnoses based on the actual reasons for the behavior. Many ODD kids would already be better described by another diagnosis, such as Developmental Trauma Disorder, bipolar disorder, DMDD, etc. Then, adding a diagnosis for childhood psychopathy and another diagnosis for a condition involving oversensitivity to threat cues would pretty much cover them all, while splitting them into categories that reflect the kind of treatments they respond to.

'It sounds like your child might be experiencing oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). Only a professional can make a diagnosis, so be sure to discuss the results of this quiz and your child's symptoms of ODD with your pediatrician."
