I've got contact info for the 3 diagnosing Psychiatrists at UBC for Asperger's in adults. I've got to call and check their schedules/wait times, then go to my family GP (for free) and get a referral to one of these 3 guys. (For free/go't insurance, I'm Canadian, born in Vancouver - which is getting rarer now too since 1/3rd of residents are born outside of Canada and many others are now born in the growing suburban sprawl where I live currently.) Otherwise if I go to a Psychologist here that's not covered by govt insurance even though some are trained and skilled at diagnosing this, and I was told the diagnosis would cost about $2000. I think that's what it would cost any foreigner to see a Psychologist for a diagnosis here, too. I have no idea what the price tag would be to see one of the 3 Psychiatrists via UBC if I had to pay the bill, but i'm assuming more than Psychologists are able to charge.

 I'm not going to rub it in (too much) but there's a reason UBC is known to locals as the "University of Beijing China," and the vast majority of the population in Richmond where YVR is are Chinese. (And due to their wise affluent Chinese ways, Richmond BC has the highest average life expectency on the planet.) And the "Campus Focus," or w/e its called piece featuring a unioversity student every week in the newspaper is almost always some Chinese girl dressed like a classed up version of Sailor Moon...   :D

See if Texas participates in the same semeser abroad international exchange program and come do a stint at UBC in whichever time of year suits your interests best.

And though I've never been, the only nude beach in the area is at UBC as well. I'd rather drive to Squamish (outdoor recreation capital of canada), half way to Whistler, and get back to learning to kiteboard at the beach there - my single most enjoyable special interest ever. Absolute bliss and balance/harmony when surfing along the ocean piloting a kite in the wind with forests/cliffs/mouintains/waterfalls in the baclkground and eagles flying everywhere, bright sun 30C weather and -2C water in the estuary where the glacial run off of the Squamish (Coast Salish for "Mother of the wind," due to the trade winds here.) River w/ an international container port loading freight from traincars onto ships along the shore, the occasional salmon or seal visitor, super awesome people... I should be able to get back to it this Summer for the first time in a few years and I'm in much better shape to do it much better too. Its the perfect blend of physics and harmonmy with nature, wind forces, waves, the tide, the sun and moon and counterbalancing your mass perfectly so you feel weightless while surfing 3x the speed of the wind across it towards the open ocean and the sunset. :D

Sadly, it may be too late for this. I'll have to check. I am looking at London also.

It's never too late. Hell, you could even stretch your education out over another year just to do this if you wanted to - unless you're on a rigid scheduled program like mine was & there's no schedule altering room.. but it may be worth exploring.

I made the mistake of trying to fast track my life by doing 130.5 credits of schooling in 2 years immediately after high school, graduating from BCIT's School of Business when I was 19.. thinking I'd find something I'd like to do and get a career started. Things haven't exactly worked out that way  and in hindsight, if I had the opportunity to spread my education out further then I'd take the slow road just to enjoy life a little more along the way, get some work & life experience etc.

This is a good point. There are also LLM's you can take after a few years of practice to practice in another country. I think Canada has a system like this too, though your country is basically one of the hardest of the common law countries for a foreigner to get licensed to practice law.

I wonder, though, 90% of Chinese dishes may not be suitable now depending upon how my allergy tests come back. If you can't eat the food, you really can't do business with Chinese people (it's a cultural thing). This could pose a problem with working in Vancouver primarily for the China connection.

I still managed to find several tolerable dishes to eat when I was out for Chinese food a couple months ago. Chinese people have food allergies, too - it wouldn't be the end of the world to no not eat some things. Also, it's possible to eat only small quantities of some obligatory things to keep up appearances.. and so long as you're transparent about why you're not eating certain things, they can't take offence to it as if you're intentionally (or unintentionally) being rude as they won't be able to assume that. While food is an important part of intercultural bonding & business relations, it's not the be all and end all. Besides, maybe you'll find that they'd rather go out for a fine steak vs. traditional Chinese food sometimes? I wouldn't extrapolate food allergies to an inability to conduct business with certain cultures - just a minor challenge to overcome when dealing with those social situations.
