Not only this when I first really understood what stimming was, I often stim without realizing I am stimming at that precise moment.

Like when I saw my SSI attorney and he asked, "what's wrong with your hands?"

I do some other stuff too but this is my big one. Almost a little strange, b/c there's other things I literally can't touch like cotton balls. It's literally like nails on a chalkboard (which I actually find less bothersome).

Wow, I thought I was like, one of the only people(my friend's sister has a friend with the same problem) who had this issue. O.O I HATE cotton balls. Which sucks because I got my ears pierced and have to use cotton balls. What I do, though, is with my nail, grab them by one fibre, and plop it in my hand before drenching it in cleaning solution all the way through. Then I can grab it and use it.

But on original topic, I read this list: http://insideperspectives.wordpress.com ... /stimming/

And realised I stimmed a LOT more than I originally thought. My worst one/most, uh, painful? one is that I obsessively pick at the skin at the sides of my thumb. I've been trying to stop this by doing other things with my hands, but I always end up picking my thumb subconsciously, and bandaids won't stay on.
'Doodling' is one I do all the time in school. But my 'doodles' consist of slightly complex sketches.

I have a lot more, but thought I'd just mention those couple ones.

I had no clue I exhibit the one of themost classic autistic sitimming motions (rocking) untill I was diagnosed and my psychologist listed it. I contradicted it and both she and my mom just looked at me weirdly. Apparently they thought I was aware of it...

I now am and sometimes it irritates me and I can't stop myself most of the time.

"Playing with cavities" really? Do you mean with your tongue or fingers?

Drawing i don't see as a stim.
Playing with hair NTs do as same with biting pens and pencils, socially acceptable stims. So is crossing legs repeatedly?? What?

Why didn't they mention flapping, clapping, toe walking, hitting yourself in the house repeatedly, rocking, verbal stimming (not sure what they meant my "making talking movements with mouth" as they didn't mention if it was to make sounds or not.

Did they mention typical stims at all? Honestly that sounds like NT stims you list, ones that are socially acceptable.

I look at it this way.
I have had certain stims from childhood that i still have now.
Nothing has changed much. I don't understand how people pick and choose a stim to be more "socially acceptable" unless they have had some intensive therapy at a young age maybe.

Some of what it listed could it be OCDs? Due to anxiety?
Are they trying to list "socially acceptable" stims for people to choose?
Its not like we can choose... i'm confused as to this list
