i was very late to start talking, i was misdiagnosed for mental retardation. Records showed they administered only the Stanford-Binet test on me (this was in the early 70s) and came to that conclusion. Then later takings of that showed "no improvement to mental age". Records that shown that 2 years later, i was finally given a different test, LIPS, which showed a much accurate showing of my intelligence as it was a performance-based test rather that a verbal/talking test, but the mental retardation label was somehow not removed until i was 10 until my mother insisted that it was totally inappropriate. But that label can still stick and why the r-word still hurts.

Somewhere along the way it was recommended that i get tested for autism, but my father refused to allow that. By the time it was too late for early childhood development so that added to my disadvantages. So by 3rd grade i was said to by "emotionally disturbed" with nothing more specific..

Nothing more until adulthood where i came up for further and ore modern tests, where i was diagnosed with major depression and then GAD and panic attacks, and then finally autism

Also, my psychiatrist thinks I probably have ADHD too, but my mom won't let me get diagnosed (probably because she's afraid he'll add another medication to the cocktail I already have to ingest every day).

Depression: was correct.
Generalised anxiety: was correct, although the assumption that it was the primary issue was not.
Social phobia: was incorrect, and was removed.
Asperger's: was correct.

Just Major Depression. That was a bad experience for me; I haven't been back for any additional diagonses since then. I don't trust therapists and I feel embarrassment needing help as I do.

Just Asperger's/ASD when younger.

I am suspecting generalized anxiety disorder, but it could just be extreme obsessive personality about certain things that are important to me. I get often incapacitating anxiety over academics and over cleanliness/things not being in the right places. My upcoming assessment will tell for sure.
