Whenever I feel like I'm doing fine I doubt my ability to make that judgement. Am I making mistakes without knowing it? I notice my own mistakes often enough that I feel insightful but if I didn't know I wouldn't know that I didn't know.

Do I always feel Autistic? No. Not all the time. Do I feel Autistic sometimes? Yes. Are there times when I feel like my Asperger's is under control when it's not? That's the big question.

Here's something you can try. During a period where you think you've been doing well for about a month, try suggesting you have poor social skills to the people you feel you're getting along with. They're reaction should give you an idea of how accurate your perception is. If they wonder what the heck you are talking about you're probably right. You're doing well socially and they don't know how you could possibly think you have poor social skills. If they agree with you or they don't outright disagree you might want to take a second look at yourself.

It's hard to find a situation in which saying you have poor social skills is actually relevant and it doesn't sound like a completely random statement you're making out of the blue. I've only had one situation in which I was able to say it without it sounding random. Still, if you are feeling like you have your AS under control and the situation comes up you should try it. Maybe you really do have a handle on it. Other people can provide a better perspective on it.
