Sure he can do what he wants, but autistic people don't need a Pope!

It's like putting coins in a charity box then posing for a photo by it and posting the photo on facebook with a caption about how charitable you are!

You're reading a lot into the photos. Just install adblock and they'll go away.

Last time I checked, we are all here by choice, not by force... If you don't like Alex, then you are free to go somewhere else...

I get where both sides of this argument are coming from, but I wish this argument about a relatively minor thing wasn't so heated.

The only problem I have is that he's looking at me (O_O)
lol
His site, if he wants both top and bottom, yay for him. I just like the site.

Same. Ignore it and it goes away. (yes it drives me nuts when people say that to me but it's true)

If you don't promote yourself, who will?

Alex has created something that people want to be involved in, and he has used that to advance his profile and his interests. Good for him.

I personally would be horrified by the prospect of my face plastered all over a website, but if he is comfortable with it then power to him. If it helps to overcome popular preconceptions about autistics, maybe its a good thing.

As a young filmmaker and activist, it would be incredibly illogical for Alex not to promote himself, especially on his own site!

He has created a great support site for Autistic people of all beliefs, which has become an invaluable resource for some. People really need to stop complaining about a little reasonably unobtrusive self-promotion and instead, show a little appreciation.

It is HIS site, and although he can do with it whatever he wants, we don't have to like it. Why don't we agree to disagree. There are more important things in this world we need to worry about than an online advertisement. For example, the atrocities that just happened today in Boston...

Maybe he wants WP to be strongly identified with himself, to put a face to the name. Also I think he offers his services as a public speaker so it's not an illogical thing to do. The photos are a bit large but it's up to him what he does on his own website. No-one forces people to come here, they are all free agents. I do think it's disrespectful putting this type of thread up.

I like the picture.

I like the plaid, the glasses, and the black and white.

I want to see the picture in the header, the footer, and the sidebar.

Self-promotion is fine too.

"Aspie Jesus?" That's a new one.

Hey, Alex. I'm a screenwriter and author of short stories, novellas and novels. If you want to make a film of any of my stories you can contact me at WP any time.

This was exactly what I was thinking. And the dating site ads with sneaky-looking women.

I think it's good to know the face of the founder of this website. By repeatedly looking at his face on this site, we will remember his face and I think that's what he's trying to do.
