I would think someone of his position would want to help in resources and support (not necessarily financial) of adult aspies.

No. I call him Mr. Cold Shower. He is more likely to say "use some
self-discipline , pull yourself up with your on boot straps, I did it
so can you"

Does Canada count?

I get upat six, every morning. I'm a little behind on getting ready for the day. I like to sit around on the Internet for two and a half hours, before I get started. I talk to my mum on the phone, than I'm flying around my flat like Gangbusters, making my bed, getting dressed, making breakfast and cleaning dishes. On alternating days, I choose between going for a long walk around my hometown, Langley BC, and going to my Clubhouse, Stepping Stones, where Bowling takes place on Tuesday and the afternoon walking club takes place on Thursday. I also go on the Saturday Outing at my club, as well. And maybe two shots of my Adventures in Cooking follies, as I'm learning how to cook for myself.

They should also show a more Autistic and personal side of me, as well, which is as equally positive as my social side. There should be a shot where I show off my Routemaster replicas and explain what a Routemaster is, and the story behind the Bus.

Hi, I've been talking with the producers for a popular tv show. They want to do a story on adult aspies living independently in the USA. If you're an adult autistic living on your own, please describe your situation. I'll make sure they produce a segment that shows us in a *positive* light. Thanks! 8)

Which TV Show?

something called "The View" with Rosie O'Donnel and Barbara Walters

i don't live alone and am in high school...but The View? everyone on that show annoys me in one way or the other.

How in the world would they protray AS without making it look like some made up medical science nonsense? They tried to portray it in a movie and it doesn't look or sound to me like it was very successful. Anyone who saw that movie and knows me, not well, but people who just know me from working with me or whatever would never guess I have that and probably wouldn't believe it. However, my boss at one of my jobs observes me a lot to make sure I'm doing my job and I think she knows I have issues, so she might believe it.

Ok, so here it is, I'm an adult with diagnosed AS and I live on my own. I work 2 jobs and if I'm not at work, 95% of the time I'm home. My neighbors I'm sure think I'm odd because they very seldom see me except for when I'm coming or going. I keep the drapes closed and the lights down low.

Other than that, there is very little I do outwardly that indicates AS and if I do, it's hard to notice. Mine shows up more in the way I think, which I believe is the way it is for most Aspies. You'd have to be an expert or be a mind reader to recognize it and if you're not an expert and observed me long enough, I would get tagged with social anxiety, depression, schizophrenia or any of the other more common names that people love to label "crazies" with.

Peronally, I think I would be very uncomfortable having my life (my world) displayed on national TV. Maybe if it was done with anonymity but I still don't know if I could.

I think if they do a show on AS most viewers are just going to scoff at the idea and think it's a bunch of nonsense. They'll form their NT opinions and that would be the end of it.

I wonder if maybe...my case wouldn't be the best case...to display in National Television.

I haven't watched the View since they repeatedly bashed breast-feeding despite public protests, a deluge of hate-mail, and education from La Leche League. I can't stand those women!

Why did they do that?

Showing 1 Aspie is insufficient IMO. I think it'd be ideal if they could show 2 or 3, preferably not with identical personalities.

Well, it all started out with Barbara Walters talking on the show about how a woman sitting next to her on an airplane had the AUDACITY to feed her infant in front of her, and Barbara thought it was "disgusting" and was offended by it. This little anecdote caused quite an uproar, because nursing mothers already deal with enough prejudice and do not need public figures like BW & co. bashing them on national TV. But apparently the ladies on the View have some kind of deep-seated grudge against breast-feeding in general and they just kept on making disparaging remarks about it, several shows in a row; at which point most of us nursing mothers just stopped watching. And that was BEFORE Rosie O'Donnell joined the panel - and she has also previously publicly disparaged breast-feeding on her other show. She said she would not let her partner breastfeed their baby because she didn't want to be excluded (though one would think the baby's health and well-being is more important than her remarkably selfish and immature feelings!). So with her in the mix now, I hate to think what they'd say!
None of this, of course, is to say they wouldn't handle an AS story well; but they do tend to sensationalize things a bit and they don't pull any punches when it comes to voicing negative criticism, so all I can say is, "Be very careful!"

1st of all, I can't stand the View or rosie o'donnell.

2nd of all, your plan would backfire unless the message and the presentation behind it were done in a certain, precise way. I'm not entire sure what message you'd be trying to give to the NT audience.

OMG know I'm upset because my life sound's too much like Droopy's.

I am at work, running errands or going to various dr appts most of the time. I am seldom at home, but if I am it is usually with the drapes closed, sitting in underwear or flannel pjs because I don't like the feeling of most fabrics. I am usually always at the computer at home with the exception of Monday nights when I watch X-Files episodes one after the other. Watch Lost on Wed nights. I usually have no lights on except for the one over my plants. On holidays I sit home alone all day because no longer have any friends. They either moved away or no longer call me. If I do go out to town it is always alone whether to a movie or restaurant.

I think it might be imperative if you portray an adult Aspie living alone they have to have a cat. I have a 13 yr old cat who I can practically communicate telepathically with we know each other's moods so well. You will also need to show dishes stacked high in the sink and papers and junk mailed piled in every corner unopened to portray this Aspie. lol

I've been talking to the producer today. Apparently they now want to do the story with me. I'll know for sure tomorrow.

OMG! (No offense teenagers, I'm mocking you there.) I forgot to mention my pets. I have a dog, she's my best friend, and 4 hamsters. I use to have 15 hamsters but gave them to the pet stores. I would have a whole colony of them if I could with a giant maze, now that would be interesting. I would love to have a cat but I'm very allergic to them. I'm allergic to lots of stuff. Now how attractive is it for some lady to walking into work with a gait, mumbling to herself, oblivious to her surroundings, watery eyes and sneezing. Sometimes, I just have to be me.

Yeah, how you spend your nights Ticker is pretty much how I spend mine. I prefer fantasy over reality so occasionally I might be singing with headphones on and I am totally a Superstar! NEVER do I act of have I acted out my fantasies when my kids or anyone's around. My dog watches me like she wishes death would become her.

I have 2 grown boys, in college but on their own. They're very intelligent and very NT. I embarrass them, especially the oldest one. I don't think they'll ever live with me again. Mom is just too w-e-i-r-d. Well, I'm perfectly fine with that, finally, I'm aloooone...yes! They were home for Christmas time and sat here and laughed because they've heard of a cat person but never a hamster person. Like I said, I just have to be me.
