I have suspected for a couple of years, but am firm now in the conviction that I have AS, at 23. Just now beginning the process of a formal diagnosis.

Diagnosed with Asperger's at 13, with PDD-NOS at 6.

EDIT: I had not known about being diagnosed with PDD-NOS, but when I was diagnosed with Asperger's I was told immediately.

for auntblabby
I also have dyslexia and face blindness both are problems but not extreme
That is such a deep and long subject - Make this as short as possible – I know I was not like others in the second grade – that was the start – when I was around 30 I started doing my best to be like Spock to have no emotions to overcome the insanity in my head – at about 48 I discovered I was autistic but didn’t put much work on that per say – say 3 years later realized that I had aspergers – started working a little harder – then I went though radiation for cancer and after that I started regressing then I put myself into the depth of my aspergers and that helped a lot but I don’t have the control I had. So my life has been full of insanity and full of success – I am one of those that my special interest bloomed. So at this moment I live in fear of opening my mouth because nothing comes out the way I see it. I still am so weird compared to the normal people – I am an extreme over achiever and an extreme under achiever but who I am and the things I have achieved and the understanding of human existence that I have gained – I am glad to be who I am – I have lived 100 times more than the normal human – within all my insanity’s I have come out really well – so the end is that I am glad to have been an aspie – I have life within me that the normal doesn’t have – life is hard for me but I know who I am – this was my short

I ask because I've found out about this what I think would be quite late in life. I'm 22 and for a long time I was too stubborn to ask for any support with my life, even though I was unhappy, because I blamed myself for self-pitying rather than thinking I might not be NT. My rationale was actually "If I had Asperger's, surely someone would have noticed by now?" But what really happened is that I should have spoken to someone much earlier, as the counsellor I saw suggested I might have it during our first meeting.

So I'm wondering if this is fairly typical, or as I had previously thought, are most people diagnosed at a younger age? Did you ever consider the idea but delay finding out?

I was 17 when I found out, but by then it was too late to do what needed to be done to change anything, I was a junior in high school with a full plate of nothing but overstacked issues that were school related, I didn't have time to do anything else.

I think my functionality has actually gotten worse over time though :/

Just turned 29. Heard it casually mentioned for years but dismissed it as I'm not a "nerd". Was doing unrelated research and stumbled upon Aspergers and was blown away. Did the Aspie quizzes and scored off the charts and couldn't believe there were actually other people like me in the world!
