I don't usually react positively to surprises even if they're good ones, just because it's different from what I *thought* was going to happen. I takes a minute for me to make the necessary changes to that mental agenda inside my head, to allow for the new information. I wish I could respond in a more positive way immediately because I end up hurting the people who put effort into doing something nice for me.

I am reminded of a line in the movie Four Minutes in which Roger Bannister says, "You know I don't like surprises. I need to know things." That is how I feel. I don't like to be hit with things at the last minute.

Only the "material" surprizes. And if they are honest.
Person: Aspic Viper, I have a surprize for you! I got you every single My Little Pony known to man.

Well, there are always pleasant and unpleasant surprises. I generally like to have a solid schedule I follow each day. If something is to happen that will change it, I like to know as far ahead in advance as possible. So in general I don't like surprises--even some "good" ones, although there are some very rare times I welcome them. It sounds like you had a nice going away party. :)

i used to live with a bf and we would periodically scare the crap out of each other in our house. whether it was during a movie or hiding behind doorways and such late at night...

i certainly enjoyed DOING it and as long as he could deal with ear piercing screams and (yes!) the occassional laundry detail for wetted jeans...

i was game :)

surprises are like mental stretching :) mental reflexes ftw!

that being said... i cannot stand to play first person shootem-up cames like DOOM because they scare me and give me complexes!
