I can't stand the taste or smell of alcoholic beverages.

So yeah, I'm a non-drinker.

I don't drink because I'm on so many psychiatric meds that it would probably kill me.

But even if I weren't on meds, I doubt I would drink because of my phobia of vomiting. Everyone knows that if you accidentally drink too much, vomiting is sure to follow.

I'm generally far too anxious to get drunk, I worry about what might happen when I'm intoxicated. As such I've never been drunk. Maybe a little tipsy, but even then I start to question whether my actions would be the same if I were completely sober, which rather takes the fun out of it. It helps that I don't like the taste of beer and other normal alcoholic drinks, so I'm not tempted by friends. But I do have a sweet spot for the nice tasting ones like wine :P

I don't drink for my own pleasure, but I do drink (very little) socially.

I will nurse a drink for two hours at a party.

I don't like the physical effects, for the most part. I used to drink much more, when I was in high school, because it was expected. That seems a bit silly now.

Some people like drinking because it is disinhibiting, but I have always been so paranoid about letting people see the real me that this was not enjoyable.

Some wines taste quite good. Most spirits are quite nasty. Rum and pineapple punch is delicious, but the sweetness hides the alcohol and it's easy to drink more than you intended--and the aftermath of that can be quite unpleasant.

Everything in moderation.

What's the obsession with drinking today? Second thread on the topic in a couple of hours.

From the time I moved out of my parent's house and began sharing a bed with another person, I've had to be drunk to get to sleep. I use alcohol to self-medicate, because I refuse to take Big Pharma's Laundry List Side Effect toxins. I've known friends who have been awakened by cops while sleeping in the middle of a busy street at 4:30 in the AM, and who have gotten up in the morning to find their kitchen in a shambles and bizarre concoctions in the fridge because they were sleep-cooking. No thanks, I'll stick with my beer. It doesn't relieve my anxiety much, but it does distract me from it momentarily.

Weed always relieved my anxieties, but my state hasn't made MM legal yet.

OTOH, I haven't used alcohol for socializing since my early 30s, but that's mainly because I just don't socialize anymore.

Of the people I've known over the years who were (or whom I strongly suspect to be) on the spectrum, its about a 50/50 split between drinkers and non drinkers. I don't think there's any association either way.

I drink at almost every social event when it's available because it works its magic and I can temporarily say goodbye to social phobia and social anxiety. I noticed that drinking alcohol makes me really like people a lot more while not sober. I've done a few embarrassing things before, but I'm still a bit aware and not do anything I'll regret a lot or forever. Besides, most people at such times also drink and don't remember as much anyway.
Outside of social events, I like to drink around once or twice a month if the chance comes along. It feels great, there's no fear and all that stuff. It can also be a funny pastime to look back at if I haven't done anything really stupid.
However, I have also abused alcohol at least a few times before and was probably at risk of becoming an alcoholic at times. It also made me feel a lot worse twice before.

the only alcoholic beverages I can handle, are a strawberry daiquiri or a sweet hard cider or a very mild malty no-hop beer. even then I can only drink half a can or half a bottle, tops, at any one given time. if I step over that limit I get a tummyache. I guess I have a cloth stomach or something.

I don't drink alcohol. I cannot stand the taste of it, additionally, I once drank myself sick.

Besides, with the meds that I am on, it'd be a lethal combo.

I don't drink. If I have to attend a function and they serve wine or champagne or something like that, I will take about two, maybe three sips and that is all I want. I never really acquired a taste for alcohol even though I like sweet tasting alcoholic beverages. But I don't have a need or desire to buy them and drink them. If they are served to me than a couple of sips is usually what I do. I don't understand how people like beer. I tried it a couple o times and it tastes like dirt to me. I do like the heat sensation of some drinks though but I have only had those once or twice and I don't know which ones they are. But the liquor store would go out of business fast if they only had customers like me. I can't stand the taste of coffee either even though I LOVE the smell of it and the texture of the beans.

AFAIC, hops make beer taste like dirt- bitter. I don't understand how so many folks find bitter flavors to be delicious. that is like saying dirt is delicious.

I completely agree. People have told me that it is an acquired taste and it takes time to like it. I don't understand why anyone would go through that kind of effort. That baffles me. Hops are fantastic to help you sleep though. Put some dried hops in a sachet in your pillowcase and you will be fast asleep in no time. In fact people who work in some breweries have a hard time staying awake.
