I understand that NTs seem to require eye contact to ensure that what they are listening to each other. Maybe they can't listen without eye contact? Eye contact longer than three or four seconds makes me feel sick. I particularly don't enjoy it when people try their best to engage contact while I am trying to look away. Too close for comfort! It's an invasion of my personal space.

I can't do more than a second of eye contact, and even that much is very rare for me. It's extremely uncomfortable to look someone in the eye, almost painful. It often makes me shudder to make eye contact. I hate it.

I hate it because I hate seeing people's negative thoughts about me.Its so easy for me to figure out what people think of me or what I say by looking at their eyes.

For me, I get either a sick feeling in my stomach, or fear.

I think its the pupil. It's so dark and deep. It feels like your looking straight at their soul.
It hurts to look into the pupil, not the coloured part about the pupil.

It sure is an intense feeling, whatever it is.
I also know I go almost deaf when I look into someones eyes. I can either see or hear, its extreamily difficult to do both.

I can stare at people for ages. I grew up with cats and can outstare a cat now even on occasion. It's f*****g painful, but I can do it.

I do a fairly passable job of faking normal eye contact but it's because I'm really looking at people's face or mouth but make it look like I am making eye contact. If I do make eye contact it's because I want to 'sense' the real person. But at that point I give myself away because I stare and am too intense. So I try not to do that bit very often or sometimes it happens accidentally. Sometimes I will stare at my own eyes in the mirror until it hurts really badly. It's almost like self-harming.

Dear lord. this sounds too weird, even for me :/

yhh I just have never felt the need to make eye contact but its quite true that it feels like an incursion on my personal space. Eye contact is much like touch for me - exceptionally uncomfortable

I can make full eye contact with my sister and my ex-girlfriend.

I can make partial eye contact when talking to my autistic friends.

I cannot make eye contact to my neurotypical friends. I especially cannot make eye contact with people who tell me to look at them of try to make eye contact with me.

I don't why eyes are so painful to look at; they just are. I don't have any real benefit to doing so. The idea of autistic people not having a built-in filter is definitely true for me. Every time I look into someone's eyes, it feels like I'm having a bath in boiling oil. For some reason, I don't get this when I'm with my sister, unless I'm hiding something from her.

I don't like eye contact. It makes me uncomfortable. I can glance at someone's eyes for a second, but then I automatically look away. I can't help it. It scares me and I have an automatic reaction.

I forget to do it. And it's uncomfortably intimate, and quite often painful.
