Reactions to Special Interests
hapens to me too,
reactions i get are the fake yawn or sigh while i talk about something about door hardware or about something that happened years ago about school.
I learned after a while to not talk about hardware with people unless they have a question about hardware (many do actually, and they seek my advice when comes to automatic door closers install or adjustment.
last time it happened, my dad said something along the lines about school secutiry due to the shootings in colorado and in massachusetts. I then told him one of my friends who works for IRST (Ingersoll-Rand Security Technologies, now Allegion) does quite a few articles a month on her web blog about school security, my dad made a bored sounding sigh as if I'm annoying him, end of discussion, I don't even bother to talk anymore about it or in depth,
if he didn't make the sigh, I would have told him I remember days when an ex student or parent could just walk in the school visit with some teachers, chit chat then leave or help out if there was any students or any after school program going on, now, you need to set up an appointment and a bunch of other critica to even be allowed on the property of the school you intend to visit.
ohh well, I guess he don't care to hear about it anymore then when I said about friend writing articles about school security.
if and when I do go on about something he not interested in, during an argument he will use it against me or tell me I'm crazy for having the interest, ohh well, not worth telling him I'm not the only one who has interest in security/doors/door parts (door closers)
eve though I have been known to talk alot when a computer is involved (and if it's about hardware for doors, good luck getting me to shut up about it), but good luck getting me to talk in person...
point is, if you dont care to know aboutit, just outwardly say it, not sigh or walk away, or tell me im a nutcase,
ohh well, thats human life and how people think who dont have aspergers/autism

Not this past Christmas, but last Christmas I made a little joke about my niece looking like my favourite member of my favourite band and than my brother in law said, "Don't know, don't care." My mum said "That's the same with me. Don't know, don't care." That was the first thing I've mentioned anything to my mum about my main special interest since the death one of the original members of that band. I've spent the next 11 months thinking about how my mum would have to answer to God about the comment and karma.
That karma hit my mum while she was eating turkey dinner with my dad and I just two nights ago. My mum started coughing her dinner up and every time she ran to the bathroom, I felt more guilty. That was my mum's karma for the Mick Avory comment and I knew my thoughts had something to do with it.
