Allow me to quote myself.

Sure looks like that's what I said.
Like I said, I thought Asperger's, autism and PDD-NOS were considered to be autism spectrum disorders. I also though Rett syndrome was considered to be a pervasive developmental disorder, as well as Asperger's, autism and PDD-NOS. Therefore meaning, there is a difference between the two terms.
Sorry, this has gone a bit off-topic.
WRONG! Autism and Aspergers are considered a PDD "disorder"!
Rett is considered a PDD, but NOT autism/aspergers.
So a cat is an animal! a DOG is an animal! A cat is NOT a dog!
When the Psychiatrist gives up on further classification, s/he says "OK, it is a PDD but I won't go further". The medical abbreviation is PDD-NOS!
Quote:
Rett syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is classified as a pervasive developmental disorder by the DSM-IV. Many argue that this is a mis-classification just as it would be to include such disorders as fragile X syndrome, tuberous sclerosis, or Down syndrome where one can see autistic features. The symptoms of this disorder are most easily confused with those of Angelman syndrome and autism.
NOTE: FEATURES and CONFUSED!
