There was also this one time when I was going to a church with my dad and stepmom when I was about 12, and wasn't allowed to take Dory with me, and when we going inside, the preacher was standing outside the door greeting people. she shook my hand, smiled, and said, "Hello, we're glad you could come today." I looked up at her and said balefully, "Dory wanted to come, too." "Who's Dory?" the preacher asked. "She's my dolphin," I answered simply, and walked on inside. And so until my parents explained more fully, the preacher thought I owned a REAL dolphin!

Awesome story :D I literally snorted coffee out of my nose laughing at this. I could just imagine her face puzzling over your real life dolphin in the back yard.

btw my favourite plushie is thirty years old and can't literally be called a plushie anymore because he's so bald.

I'm glad you enjoyed my story, hurtloam. :D Thanks.

Sounds like an OCD thing.

There are paint on "nail polish," products sold in drug stores designed to deter people from biting their nails. I believe they work by tasting so very bitter that you don't want to put your fingers in your mouth because you don't want to have the nasty bitter taste in your mouth.

Here's one I googled: Image

I'm also making Dory a button on Zazzle.com. You see, Dory already wears a collar with a license tag, in case she and I are ever separated (I was spurred to go ahead and get that done when I heard the tragic news about Tracie Dolim and her lost Pikachu plushie, Sparky), and the button I'm customizing for her on Zazzle is going to say, "I am someone's coping item - If found, please return!"

Thanks again! :)
What a great idea. I rarely take out one of my favorite coping toys in case I lose him. He is a plushie too. But that is a fantastic idea.

I also pick my nails till it hurts. It feels compulsive. Sometimes I do it so much the pain makes it hard to sleep, but for some reason I find it really hard to stop. It's worse when I'm stressed or tired, but at other times I've managed to reduce it to a level where it's not much of a problem.

I think if you're trying to give up a stim you should replace it with another stim that occupies the same sense or body part but causes fewer problems. It helps me to play with a stim toy like a Tangle or stress ball. I have a small Tangle that I wear on my wrist and play with when I need to, and I sometimes carry my stress ball around. It feels comforting to have something in my hand.
