My memory is good if I'm interested, and sucks if I'm not.

However, I do struggle a lot with prospective memory. Prospective memory is the ability to designate a certain memory to be retrieved at some point in the future. For example, being able to decide, while at work, that you need to remember something when you get home, and then actually remembering it at the right time.

I am exactly the same way. If something piques my interest, I will remember it for years. If not, forget about it. *ba dum tss*

As far as remembering things like where I put things like my bank card, or what a person's name is, or when I should call someone, again, I'm terrible at remembering those things. I was even convinced at one time (when I was much younger though) that I had some form of early-onset alzheimers because of this. Of course, back then I was more paranoid about that kind of stuff than I am now.

my shortterm memory is very bad though.

If you don't remember things that happened recently but do have good long term memory, how long does it take for you to start remembering things?

For example, something that happened yesterday, how long before you start remembering every aspect of that day?

I once read somewhere that you tend to remember things that you reflect on afterwards and think about. In that way you form strong synaptic connections to those memories.
I believe this is true for me. I remember things from when I was a baby and child because I kept the memories alive by thinking about them often throughout my childhood.
My short term working memory is horrible though. I can't keep directions in my head, When following directions, I can only remember one step at a time. When writing a reply to what someone wrote, I have to continually reread what they wrote or I forget what I am replying to.

My short term memory is pretty sketchy. One of the reasons I need routines.

My short term memory sucks so much I couldn't stick to a specific routine if I tried...and yes I have tried creating routines.
