I'm fine with saying either, I just usually say "I am autistic" cause it rolls off the tongue better to me, and it's a habit.

Its a 50/50 split between I am autistic and I have autism.
Im pretty vocal about it on the forums that im on, and seem to be well regarded.
I want autism to be well regarded along with me.

I tell people I am autistic. I was diagnosed with HFA. I prefer the term 'autistic' to 'Aspergers' on the basis of my dx, and because of political reasons- shattering stereotypes about autism.

I say 'I have autism' as interchangeably as 'I am autistic'. I never say I'm an 'aspie' because everyone I've met with an Aspergers dx manifests their symptoms slightly differently (better with verbal communication, less obsessive interests). Aspies have a slightly different social style to us plain autistics I think.

I just say that I'm quirky or nerdy. :)

i am in the "i am" corner rather then "i have".
saying "i have aspergers" makes it sound like a disease or condition you can get and get rid of, like "i have the flu", while aspergers is just part of who you are, akin to "i am a man"; you dont say "i have the male reprocution organs"...

I like the word aspie. It sounds fun and is easy to say. When you say Asperger's or Asperger's Syndrome it sounds like a disease, which is not how I see it. I see it has a difference, a quirk. And, like aspie, quirk is a fun word.

I say I am autistic, just like I am a woman. Neither defines who I am completely, but both are part of my identity. I only use 'I have' for personal characteristics if they're something minor like eye color.

"Aspie" has become part of my regular lexicon as of now.

I say 'I am Autistic/Aspergian/an aspie'. Autism isn't something I have that is separate from me, it's part of me. And I don't want to suggest in any way that it's something that can be cured away from me.

The only exception is that I'll say 'I have Asperger's' to someone I don't know if I don't want to have to explain what 'Aspergian' means and I don't want to deal with their surprise or disbelief that an Autistic person can speak, be intelligent, look 'normal' etc.

I usually say, that I am an Aspie, or that I have Aspergers syndrome.
