Yes. Yes, it is more complicated that I first thought.

I have a recurring argument with my sister about cheap clothes. I say not to buy them, they are made in sweat shops by children. My sister says that if we don't buy them, the children who are supporting their families won't get paid. You're right Paolo, it is complicated.

It is a very complicated issue. I believe I am most generous when it comes to people or things that mean something to me. I am happy to give my last dime to help out my best friend or to the benefit of cats (one of my obsessions), but I cannot make myself give to bell ringers and the like. I have been known to give generously to someone who is willing to work (even a little) and give nothing to someone with a sad story that cannot be verified. I have been called selfish for donating to animal rescue when so many people are in need around the world. I guess I am generous to the issues close to my heart, but not so much otherwise.

not usually, but I can be.

I sometimes hate myself when I have been stingy.

However, that isn't the case now, although I'm DEFINATELY not selfish or greedy.

I was/am the same way. I used to be generous to a fault, but am not now. That is really just because some beggers ar richer than I am, people claiming starvation STILL have kids, are careless with food, etc... My original goal was NOT to feel good, but to HELP! When I find that I am helping to peretuate the problem, I don't feel good, find I have HURT others, and feel CHEATED! So, I just don't give to strangers anymore.

Basically, I AM generous. I am just not stupid.

I agree with Kittenfluffies. I consider myself generous, but not to the point where I will get taken advantage of. I will give of myself when it comes to sharing information people need, but am reluctant to give money to people. I am also reluctant to give anyone my possession because, in some cases, people have taken forever to return them.

I try to support charities etc as much as I can,but you have to draw the line somewhere and
it's difficult to know where. In our cities we get homeless people selling magazines, but if you
buy the magazine off one street vendor, you walk into the next street and see another vendor
and are then left feeling guilty for not buying the same magazine from them as well.
Even if people look after themselves more than others,I don't think it's necessarily being
selfish. I used to be very generous in giving working time to my employers, but I realised I
was just being taken for granted and it wasn't always getting to the root of problems.
