I could see myself posting something like the OP. I think I'd know better now, but years ago, if I was excited about some epiphany I'd had and just wanted to share it, but I was so excited that it didn't come out so clear. :D Actually, maybe I've done it recently too.

Well, of -course the earth doesn't revolve around the autistic community. It can't revolve around a community. It revolves around me and only me. I thought everyone knew that....

It's entirely possible.

I mean I had my own epiphany about talking about my interests back in 1997, after managing to overdo it badly. I don't think it's necessarily wrong, but I don't understand what the OP is trying to say.

I do, I am on the spectrum myself. Fact is, just because you are passionate about some topic that you discuss in most of your conversation without seeing whether the person is interrested does not mean you are a special expert on that topic and does not mean you understand it better than people who only mention it the odd time.

I think he is saying we are self-centered and not flexible with our opinions once our mind is made up. I could be wrong however but it is my take on the OP.

Edit: I think he is also saying we have a superiority complex. As in we feel superior to NTs or something to that effect. His fuzzy thinking scenario. I have never said that about NTs personally. However they don't seem to have the same passion we do for certain subjects of interest.

I guess the universe revolves around the NT community, instead.

Damn. You beat me to it.

And I often find even when talking about my special interest with someone who is also into that subject, they appear to know more than me.

OK, I admit it, I've seen myself as more of an expert and have been impatient when people would bring another perspective into the picture, but to be fair not even NTs can control their own emotions sometimes. We get caught up in one passionate moment and neglect to dial back and realise that the other person has feelings too.

Try having an autistic special interest + mania. I basically think I'm God when I'm manic. How's that for an ego? But I'm a very motivated and driven person too. Two-edge sword etc.

Well, I definitely have an ego, that is for sure.

To me it sounds like the OP is angry or upset about something. I don't understand the the reason for this thread though. Sounds like the OP is trying to express a frustration.

I do understand your point OP and I can't say that I have never been guilty of what you expressed but I don't understand why you felt the need to bring this up. Of course you are allowed to bring up whatever you like but it sounds like there is a lot more to this than what you have presented. It feels like you were hurt or something.

I can be stupid about things, and that is o.k., however when I am on the ball, I really have no patience for stupid people. It's not really an ego. I'm sure it looks like one.

Funny, I feel that way as well. Maybe it is not always my ego that rears up.

The Universe does not revolve around anyone. However, NT people don't generally need alone time, and so spend more time interracting with others, giving a more worldly view, also having varied interrests most likely helps one understand why real world choices are made. There's a real world out there where those with varied interrests consider things that those with narrower (special) interrests completely leave out.

Yes, they may not have the same passion for certain subjects and you guys do, but that does not make you special experts in those areas. Many of you maybe armchair experts.

Do you often find that even if they are not as intensely interrested as you are?

I agree. It could be about how they feel about themselves or towards another person. It's not really presented in a way to warn us about making the mistake of thinking people are stupid and having a big ego, it's more to condemn and make us feel guilty. I'm just talking about the way it was delivered, not that that was their motive all along.
But I can let it go because the OP has an ASD.

I'm sure people can be unaware of the facts at times, but it's not always the case. Sometimes people have known more than me and I do feel a bit embarrassed by that and still try to make it sound like I know as much as or more than them. Years ago I would never admit to this.

Yes it might seem to revolve around the majority, though note that NT behaviour is generally tollerated in others by those who exhibit it. Even if someone exhibits odd behaviour, one may still be suspicious about the same behaviour in other people. Furthermore, as these people don't generally need alone time, they spend more time interracting and so they tend to set their egos aside.
