Yes that happens a lot, I also tend to lose things in my pockets like I can't find what I am looking for then I check again and its there....I also misplace things a lot or cant find something because I put it in an unusual spot.

Yes, it happens to me often. I'm constantly losing things and tripping over toys the kids have left in the floor because I don't see them.

Wow! I did not expect a 100% "yes" response to this...
Maybe everyone does it, like someone said here (?) But I guess it is NOT just my PTSD brain.

Also, the opposite occurs for me as well. If I loose something I really want to find, I can somehow "set" my eye to look for it and often find even the most small object. Like once I lost a small earring in a gravel parking lot. I "set" my eye to see it, and found it quickly. Another time a friend lost a cotter pin in the mud, and I "set" my eye for 'cotter pin' and found it. Many other examples. But then I do not see things that are right there if I am not expecting that thing.

There is a word for this eye "setting" thing that I came across once. I think they call it an "iconographic eye" or something. Does anyone know? It is a trait that apparently comes in handy for people who are archeologists.

Do others of you find you can "set" your eye when you are looking for something, even though you do not see things that are there that you are not expecting?

I wish I could do that archeological eye thing. but it seems that is not a talent of mine. so far. my sister and brothers OTOH have that in spades.

they have isolated traits [they function highly as NTs] but IMHO not full-on syndrome. my late mother, OTOH...

I do this all the time!! !!

When ever I was looking for something that was right in front of me butI still couldn't find it, my Grandmother would say "If it was alive it woulda bit you!" :D
