I do not really embarass my sibling. I just piss my sister off with Laibach sometimes and Sepultura. Other than that, she is awesome. Apart from when there is a rowing club party I am at with her and I embarass her by keeping quiet and opening doors for people.

Laughing and freezing up are the two most common default reactons in both AS and NT people to when their brain is missing data on how to respond to a certain situation. NTs are most likely to do this when someone says or does something shocking or in some other type of unusual situation. People on the spectrum may do this in a wide variety of situations. There's no harm in it, so those that do laugh at wierd times, don't worry about it. Those that don't, don't worry about it.

I once saw a preview, their was soft music playing and it was showing the world from space. And after a few seconds, the world exploded. I laughed REALLY loud. I really angered my Mom, but I still thought it was funny.

Yeah, I see how that could be appealing at times.

I pissed people off today when I was laughing through out Roman Polansky's Macbeth due to the crappy special effects and the dialogue.

Maybe CockneyRebel's question should have been "Is there anybody here that isn't/wasn't an embarassment to their family? That would have been a short thread!

I have been an embarassment to my highly AS NT-wannabe dad, brother, sister and, to a lesser extent, my AS mother.

And I have managed, over the years, to largely dismay and alienate a whole barnload of cousins, aunts and uncles.

If Toby Young hadn't already written a book entitled "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People" I would have dibs on that title.

However, I think what has really gotten the goat of some of these people is that, as I've gotten older and more well-spoken, I've pointed out various fallacies of theirs during discussions we've had, where they clearly expected me to concede simply because they were "superior" in some sense.

Good old AS perseveration inspires me to have done my homework on any topic I make assertions about (life is so much easier for folks who aren't spending 90% of their time blowing smoke to obscure BS they spouted earlier), and these days I have the verbal skills to express the ideas efficiently.

On the other hand, a lot of NTs seem to think that if they express something in a sufficiently comforting, suave or condescending way, THAT's what should permit them to prevail, regardless of the merits of their argument.

The Amazing Braying Boy being able to skewer his condescending "well-educated" relatives intellectually! Shock! Outrage! :P

Ahhhhhh.....dis-proving values and beliefs and arguments of relatives.....that's fun for a good laugh every now and then.....but I often agree with my family.... :D

I'm a constant source of embarrasment to my eight year old sister. (I'm 18). She's so NT it's scary. She's popular, pretty... Everything I wasn't. She actually told me to leave home when her friends come over. Apparently, they think it's weird that I want to play with them and they ask questions. They have cool toys, too.... Like beads and dolls... :(

My brother is mildly learning disabled, but socially very intelligent. He's actually an embarrassment to me. He seems absolutely normal, but he has a writing disability, where he can't make sense of his own words when he puts them on paper. He wants to hang out with my friends (by all accounts, some of the most immature people in my HS), but he tries to stop us from going off on long-winded discussions of cartoons and comic books. I have to stop and explain which character is which half the time!

I make him hang out with his girlfriend.

As for parents... They almost never take me out of the house, if that tells you anything.
