What the counselor said *UPDATED*

yeah who dose things like that ?

i was told by a "professional" in a letter that my application for disability allowance was refused for the following reasons
1- the person must be suffering from a physical or mental illness or defect which has continued or is expected to continue for at least a year
2- the condition must restrict the person in undertaking work which would otherwise be suitable in regard to someone of the persons age and experience
my dr and my psychologist both thought it was very wrong

I got four of those letters before I got my approval. 90% of all applications are denied and the reasons that they state a complete BS. You are dealing with a government agency that has a $4 billion annual budget, whose sole purpose is to deny people whether they have a legitimate claim or not. They keep denying you and dragging each step out to the last possible moment in the hopes that you will either give up or die from your condition. I don't know how these people live with themselves going to work every day at a job that requires them to crush people who represent the most vulnerable portion of the population. All I can say to you is that if you have a doctor and a psychologist on your side, you will get approved. But you have to go through the BS. Chances are they will drag it out for two years and you will be approved at the court level when you appeal their third rejection. Just don't give up. Don't let those f*****s beat you.

She told my fiance that I would lose my disability. I guess it depends on what state you are from. My friend in California has it for his Aspergers and I have it for my "bipolar" and bipolar can be managed. Autism cant really be managed with medication like a chemical imbalance. I will find a way to keep it if it comes to that. I hope I do not lose it because I am not very good with work either.

They want to learn how to cope with my meltdowns and how to diffuse situations. My fiance did not really intend on going but his mom made the appointment and told him he was going lol. I dont really care. If they feel they need to vent about me then go ahead. I know my situation is not easy to handle, hell I have lived with it so I know how hard it is just on myself. I made an appointment with my psychotherapist for both of them to go with me and they are both agreeing to do so. I think they know this lady is full of crap. My fiance def. does but I cant speak for his mom because I did not talk to her about it yet. She does want to go with me to my lady so she can learn more though. So thats the story behind that.

If you look into disability you will see there is a "blue book" definition of each disorder. Just like a DSM-V type deal, you have to meet so many requirements in order to be accepted as disabled. I am very facinated in this type of stuff so I got it the first try with months of research and learning how to word my issues on paper and I purposly saw THEIR choice of Dr. for the mental exam so I could get more of a chance of them believing me if it was my own it might seem to them that the psychologist is being bias. Like I said I did it all on my own with months of research before hand and during each paper. I had every doctor I ever saw and list of medications and side effects. I am one of the youngest my therapists have met that got disability on their own, mental disability is very difficult to achieve. So please, do research! Every paper they give you, make sure you look up proper ways to answer questions. If you sound TOO disabled they are going to think you are restricting yourself on purpose. If you are not disabled enough, then you wont qualify because to them you dont seem like you need the help. You have to answer and write in a specific way that shows you are trying your best but have limitations. I hope my information can help in some way. Good luck!

Wait,curl up in a ball

Yes. Like we should be in a corner rocking all balled up. Similar to what a person would look like if they were very frightened and hiding, I imagine is what she is suggesting.

You are one of the lucky ones. It's not a matter of research, for most people just a matter of the system being set up to deny people. I looked at the statistics and over 90% of all applicants are denied. I documented everything and presented medical records from my doctor and was denied. I was sent to the states doctor who's evaluation was overwhelmingly in my favor and they denied me again, completely ignoring their own doctors evaluation. I presented a third evaluation from another doctor and they rejected me a third time. I appealed to an administrative law judge who gave me a "fully favorable" decision and they still rejected me a fourth time. Even with the ALJ decision. Six months after my court case, I was finally approved probably because I contacted the court and I'm guessing that judge threatened the caseworkers with contempt of court and some time in jail.
I'm glad your case went so smoothly, but I did a lot of research and I know exactly what the statistics are. Your quick approval was luck, because most people who do everything properly are denied up to the court level. Once at the court level more than 60% are approved. How does one explain the discrepancy between a 90% denial rate from one agency and a less than 40% denial rate with another agency? It is either the Social Security Administration denying people that should be approved or it is a bunch of administrative law judges that are being conned by people who shouldn't be approved. My money is on the former being true.

I would fire the counselor. Waste of money. If you're not paying for it, waste of your time seeing her. Not worth going to keep trying to prove her wrong.

I always wonder why I was approved the first time when my mother signed me up for it. My husband was approved the first time too. I remember when I went in for the testing, I was just myself and I wasn't trying to be disabled or trying to not be disabled. I answered the questions honestly and did what she told me to do.
Oh yeah mu autism group had a discussion about getting on disability and one of the things the speaker said about it was when going to the doctor, do not say you are "fine" when they ask how are you and how have things been. We need to tell them how our condition affects us or else the doctor will assume we are fine because they take the response literal.

i think if this counselor doesn't understand your condition how is she going be be any help to them anyway they'd be better off asking you stuff about your meltdowns and how to diffuse situations really or if you don't feel up to it they should go someone that deals with asd related problems
