the UK truly supports the whole of the autism spectrum;am not sure of any other country that is as balanced as here, the UK has independance promoting services, social groups, and support groups for HFAs right up to specialist colleges, specialist sports services such as the special olympics, specialist care, specialist day centres with lifeskills at the centre and specialist multi disciplinary services for those of us with severe or profound autism.

I think Ontario is pretty good all things considered although the coast does sound enticing

Thailand. Agree with you Slave, a buddhist country - and the Thais are devout buddhists, very respectful gentle people.

The Catholic Church. It's got routine, ritual and rules and lots to do. It's been good for me, being a priest, since within the schedule I nevertheless have the ability to take hours off during the day to recharge myself. If you ever wondered what Aspies did in the middle ages, look at the monasteries and the universities. They were filled to the brim with Aspies.

And lots of hierarchy, dogma, sexism. Not for me, thanks!

The coast as in BC, or as in Newfoundland/the other maritime provinces?

Any coast. there's something about the ocean - powerful and rythmic

The UK does definitely interest me, and with its diverse population and well-known healthcare system, I've often wondered what type of support it would have for aspies.

Switzerland, everything there is so formal and they have rules for everything right down to which day you can run your washing machine. It's aspie heaven because it removes so many of the variables.

Omg that sounds wonderful. I live in the 'burbs in the US and every single frigging day someone is cutting their grass with their stupidly loud lawn mowers. I wish there was a set grass cutting day and time so I didn't have to put headphones on in my own house when I'm by myself.

I wish there was only one day and one hour or so a week that people could use their @#$% leaf blowers too.

Interesting old thread.

I think what culture you would enjoy depends a lot on whether you are outgoing or introverted.

Also, population density is a big thing. If I were to move to Thailand, I'd stay out of Bangkok, for sure!

Somebody mentioned that the Scandinavia is extremely conformist, and that's true. I think sometimes people on WP romanticise Scandinavia and Japan too much. I relate a lot to the people who said they had negative experiences living in Japan - they have a lot of the same issues that people have in Scandinavia.

What's nice about where I live is the connection with nature, and the fact that a more economically equal society makes people more easy going. People are not so stressed out here as they are in the US.

I saw a lecture with Tony Attwood, where he mentioned that shutting oneself in one's room removes most of the problems caused by Asperger's, which is why it's so dangerous. I'd like to point out that being alone in nature has the same effect, but is a lot healthier.
