Another analyser here. It has been a useful skill. Worked reviewing books for a major newspaper, edited manuscripts for publication, and it was immensely useful for coursework at university. It's a strength, far as I'm concerned, not a weakness.

Analysing from a thoughtful perspective is the opposite of the NT small talk perspective,- make noise, gossip, etc - so by not participating in the trivia and analysing instead, you are breaking the NT social conformity rule!! Good for you!

I don't consider it over-analyzing. I consider it how my mind just IS. I consider a LOT of possibilities. It allows me to be rational. When you don't understand the world around you, your mind can attempt to consider different possibilities in order to learn. That's what you are doing. You are attempting to learn.

People are surprised that I ask "Why?" all of the time. They seem to automatically understand motivations (or so they think), so they don't have to do this. Yet, I literally need to know WHY someone just did something. I observe people and then explore reasons.

Yes, and then they tell me "Stop analyzing!!" but I can't not do that and I don't see how they can't not do that either.

Once someone told me that I was too fearful and "rule-based." If they would just tell me the rules I wouldn't have to wonder what the rules were so I could follow them, because there are ALWAYS rules (including the rule that you shouldn't be "rule-based").

She didn't say hi to me

Better luck next time, I guess LOL

Maybe I'm over-analyzing?

BTW: I'm only kidding.

You win the thread.

Oh yes. I've learned that this is probably a sign of higher intelligence though. Makes me wonder how many inventors and entrepreneurs have been on the spectrum. :D

Thanks wozeree for answering my question in the other thread, (you know which one I mean).

We're having a split conversation between two threads. But we're Aspies, we can do it, standing on our heads.

So now wozeree is an elephant. Ok, I can live with that 8)

The sluts that I worked with at the factory in the 90s told me that I think too much. I felt like telling them that they think too little, but I didn't.

There was also this one time that one of the aides at my high school told me that I over analyze things.
