Funny Thing about NTs

once again....sorry to say.... this isn't an us vs them thing. it was an issue between higher functioning autistic and lower functioning autistic in my autism schools. People are just like that. If you can't do something the same as them or can't do it right, you get those kind of reactions. I got bugged about being mostly nonverbal by autistic kids. Either them trying to get me to talk more in a nice way, or teasing me about not talking. or laughing at me when i tried to talk and did a bad job at it....which probably contributed to my having selective mutism.

When NT's say that I would very much like to proceed with a poetry recital or a lecture on the virtues of thorough teeth brushing. Such a response would surely prevent any such comments in future.

This post strikes at the core of the problem. Too bad that most folks will choose to ignore it. Selective self-righteousness and all that. Reminds me of the Blackadder line in Blackadder 3 where an enraged Edmund kicks a cat, the cat proceeds to slash at a mouse, and the mouse then bites Edmund's lackey Baldrick.

Baldrick: Oh, sir! Poor little Mildred the Cat! What's she ever done to you?
Edmund: It is the way of the world, Baldrick. The abused always kick downwards. I am annoyed, and so I kick the cat. The cat pounces on the mouse, and finally the mouse bites you on the behind.
Baldrick: Well, what do I do?
Edmund: Nothing. You are last in God's great chain, Baldrick. Unless, of course, there's an earwig around here that you'd like to victimise.

People are universally cruel sure whether or not they fall within our own sequestered corner of the gene pool. In any group the dynamic will be what determines whether such comments are issued. The problem is probably that most autistics experience an us vs them social dynamic. Most of my social interactions occur between myself and other NT's so I dont have the benefit of being able to compare.

Intuitively it seems to make sense that NT's might be more predisposed to issue such statements because there is generally more emphasis on social interaction but one could actually make a case for NT's not actually requiring nearly as much verbal input due to being able to read body language loud and clear. While an NT may see that you feel uncomfortable and dont wish to talk an autistic individual may just assume you're deliberately being reticent.

Im not sure that it has anything to do with a hierarchy of victimisation. It seems to be more about the spirit of the wolfpack.
