Note to self: Get over it.
The reason Disney purchased Marvel, which I'm still grieving about because now all the Marvel animated series are HORRID and yes the word horrid needed to be emphasized; the reason they also bought Star Wars is so they can attract males. I went to Disney World in 96 when I was eight years old. I didn't care for it. I liked Mickey a little bit and I watched the cartoons, but I never found Disney very exciting. I did enough Universal Studios a lot though, even though the King Kong ride did scare me. The funny thing is, I knew King Kong was fake, but I was afraid how fast the ride was going, the ride might break and kill me lol. My point is Disney has always had a bigger female following.
I did not like Disneyland when I was young. I disliked most of the rides (including Matterhorn, Pirates of the Caribbean). Though, I did like Autopia,
As an adult, I loved visiting Disneyland (other than the crowds and costs). It truly was a magical place. We took our daughters to Disneyland several times (albeit many years ago). They particularly loved seeing their favorite princesses walking around the park. Though, my eldest daughter disliked the most of the rides as well (other than Autopia).
Overall, I think the placard at the entrance says it all: ?Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy?.
I went to Disneyworld for the first time last year with my wife (I'm in my 40's). We went during late November which I think is a less than popular time which suited me just fine.
The less busy times of the day were better for me too (early morning and late-afternoon-suppertime-early evening). It's surprising how many "quiet corners" you can find at Disneyworld if you look (yes we looked and yes we found them). There are also a whole lot of less popular rides that were of great interest (like Epcot's Living with the Land).
I did wear earplugs most of the time and that was a good idea for me.
Also, Disney has a special guest program for autistic children that includes dedicated quiet lounges! I read about in it the magazine on the airplane on the way down. Phone Disneyworld and they can provide you details and set it up.
Universal was a different story - I did not find it to be autism friendly at all. Went there, saw it, got the T-shirt, have no desire to go back. I'd be happy to go back to Disneyworld.
