Yep, same problem here. Though I find it much less stressful to write on this forum, so the thoughts flow more naturally. It also helps that there's an edit button. My mind is unable to switch to correction mode until it's convinced that the writing has been turned in. For this reason, I sometimes edit my posts 4 or 5 times (or I could sit in front of a screen and unsuccessfully 'edit'/look at screen for an hour at a time).
In school, it's much worse. I took college comp111 3 times before passing (I ended up not turning in enough papers everytime. It was too stressful), and college comp112 twice (still haven't completed it). The essay questions tend to be trivial and dumb, like "compare and contrast two short stories", yet I can't do it to save my life. When I read other peers' essays, I come away mostly unimpressed by their quality of thought, not that it matters, because in the end, I can't translate my thoughts into a semi-coherent paper, and in the end, that's the only skill that matters for passing. It sucks serious donkey ass.

I have had trouble writing since forever. I never really learned how to write until I was 9. My handwriting is neater than it was then, but...

Yeah. Sometimes I can't figure out how to say something or what I write doesn't adequately express what is in my mind.
And someone always comes along and says it much better anyway.

Same here.

I think writing is like anything else it needs practice. Sometimes I write well and sometimes I think I written exactly what I wanted but rereading it I find I missed the crucial point entirely. I don't think there's anything wrong with working on something over and over until it's right. I usually keep what I have discarded and work it in later.

To do creative writing I started with poetry, just making simple rhymes of one page in my note book (very small notebook). So it gives you a fixed length and doesn't take too long. After reading Harry Potter (about a million times) I was fascinated by the genre of children's literature and made some attempts at writing prose. Again short stories which were all pretty bad, I found that I couldn't express properly without going longer. I have now written a full novel which was just long enough.

If I have to write a serious letter, this can take hours, but that is what it takes.

I think the thing with creative writing is that anything can happen and something needs to happen. Remember if you get stuck there is always magic to get you out of a sticky corner. :) You'll get where you need to go eventually.

Yes, my backspace button is nearly worn out!!

Yes, I have that problem, too, although I have improved over the years. I always struggled with both reading and writing at school (in my first language). Not that I couldn't read or write at all but I was extremely slow in reading and I just didn't know what to write. I did very well in grammar but that was the only component of the language subject that I enjoyed.

Now I try to organize the ideas and put them in a logical order. That usually works. I can write paragraphs that other people can understand. Still, writing is not my strength. I admire some WP posters for their very well-written posts. I wish I could write like them.

Yup, slow at reading too. I can read very well, just not fast. I was with the top of the class for reading in school, until they switched to a new teaching method that involved speed, and I quickly fell from the top.

For me it's having an idea but not being able to find words. Why don't you explain to your teachers that you have trouble. What I do is try to make friends with my teachers and then they are usually very willing to be what help they can. I have had some excellent teachers and this has helped me grow as a writer. I hope I helped.

Interestingly enough, I was born in China, yet have no capability of writing Chinese (American schooling). Also, since age 9, my hard writing shifts from easily read to indistinguishable.
