Off topic: How do you feel about psychedelic rock, with people such as Jimi Hendrix?
Following the tangent:
Is it really off topic?
The music is informed by a chemically augmented sensibility... "and the wind cries 'Mary"
I find that really listening to certain songs from the Doors (The End, Break on Through, When The Music's Over. Riders on The Storm) is a reliably mind altering experience quite similar to the effects of pharmaceuticals. Fortunately the delivery mechanisms for music are more benign and have fewer side effects than drugs.
My mind seems so sensitive to various things I feel much better about dabbling in psychoactive video and sound than chemicals!
I take lorazepam very rarely to control panic attacks. It's effects are so strong that I never took the higher dose or went on the more regular schedule the doctor expected. My advice would be to avoid this kind of medication unless you really need it, and then only take the minimum required to achieve the therapeutic effect and get off it as quickly as possible. Don't let yourself get dependent--people have a range of experiences with that and the withdrawal spectrum runs from mild discomfort to unbearable, hellish experiences that make suicide seem like a rational choice. It's not a chance to take lightly.
