True story, My mom knew about these two little old ladies who had their house broken into by a robber. They had practically nothing because they were so poor. When the guy who broke into their house saw how little they had he felt sorry for them and gave them money.

Well this morning I called about a Great Pyrenees/cattle dog mix and we went on a test walk. Way too much dog and this led me to conclude that there is a fatal flaw in my plan. Any dog that is strong enough to fend off an attacker is likely too much for me to handle on a daily basis.
Bother.
Well I guess I'll get those window locks and such put in, but I am left feeling a lack of confidence. I don't know if I want to get into the whole weaponry thing other than my tire checker, although I have always thought a basket-hilted sword might be nice.

You can get a smaller dog if you really want one. Studies have shown that an aggressive bark from a smaller dog is as deterring as a warning bark from a big dog. Pyranese dogs are magnificent but a lot of dog to care for. Maybe a medium sized dog like a doberman or a German shepherd or even a lab or pit bull might be great. Dobermans are among my absolute favorites. They have been since dogs were my special interest when I was little.

I once had a rough-coated white chow chow. He was the best guard dog ever. Not much barking or jumping, but a rattling low growl that would make anyone think twice.

Wow he must have been beautiful. Kind of like a teddy bear!

He was. Hard to care for his coat though. He died young - in his sleep - heart failure.

That is so sad.
