Having people not like you and not wanting you as part of their social group (including at work, meaning that you're constantly at risk of getting fired) because they can sense that there's something different about you really really sucks. If there was a pill that could get rid of my symptoms so that I could fit in, be successful at work and therefore successful at life, I would take it.

I know. I like broccoli. I like it raw with ranch dressing. I would gladly eat it every day if that would help me out in life.

I'd never give in, just to fit society's rules.

It is society that needs to change to the better (meaning more supportive, more caring and more respectful to people with diversities).
Not me.

I don't believe I owe this world ANYTHING. I owe those who are supportive to me, something. I owe them a lot.
But I don't believe I owe anything to the rest of the world, including employers and eventual co-workers who wouldn't give a damn sh*t about diversities.

I'd rather die than become another than who I was born and developed as.

Life is not something one should hold on to, regardless of whatever happens. This only leads to life abusing you.
You need to control life. Not the other way around.

Life is there to fulfill MY needs and MY requirements.

All this talk about "finding a cure" and "treating symptoms" makes it sound like we have some kind of disease. So, I'm a little socially awkward and spend the better part of my free time learning about lock-picking or how members of a specific group of criminals in the US and UK each produced their own unique firearms from scratch. Perhaps I'll re-read "How to Hide Things In Public Places" by Dennis Fiery or "Sneak It Through (Smuggling Made Easier)" by Michael Connor. I don't need a cure for that. In take great pride in my idiosyncrasies and my level of proficiency in my areas of interest.

Improvement of behavior, the study said. An improvement of behavior does not equate to an elimination of autism.

The specific areas of autism targeted were social interaction, abnormal behavior, and verbal communication. Not intense fixations or intellectual ability. It is possible to diminish the negative symptoms of autism while retaining (and possibly growing) the positive ones.

There is no need to be quick to accuse one another of being a curbie. Stop it.

It's no big deal.

An extremely small study group. We don't know if the effects would be temporarily anyways. Not to mention that it could have worked more as a placebo than anything.

As I wrote in my OP, all these cures against autism, what they are really about, is to enforce coercion.
I most westernized countries today with military conscription, a lot of people with ASD are getting exemptions from this duty.

That is the reason they want to find a cure for autism, so that we can become cannon fodder.

Or to take away our social benefits. It's not that I find that social benefits are just THE way of life, but I wouldn't trade my autism and hence my personality away, just because people want me to work!
I'd gladly be working, if I could, but I don't want to if it requires of me to be non-autistic.

Wrong. In countries with either military conscription or strict rules to recieve social benefits, exemption from military duty or work requires that there are
no cures for you.

If there ever comes a cure for whatever reason got you exempted, you will be forced to take that cure, of face punishment.

I think that's a very interesting study, but it doesn't mean that they've found a cure for autism. It means that they're looking into ways to treat symptoms and they've found something that might work.

If I could take a pill that would treat those symptoms, I don't know if I would...I like who I am but I've always wanted to fit in.

Whether there is or not, I wouldn't take it. Why? Because in a way, I love being autistic. It's given me the ability to do things most people are unable to do. It's also a part of who I am as well, and I wouldn't want it any other way either. However, I wouldn't mind having a pill to help manage it, then yes... I wouldn't mind that at all.

I've never tried it raw; I've only had it boiled as part of the dinner vegetables. I like it a lot, and I have no idea why so many seem to dislike this tasty veggie.
