You can't control other people's behaviour, you can only choose whether to respond or not. Yes, we have all experienced this; it is thoughtless namecalling and hurtful behaviour that often the perpetrators do without thinking of the implications.

You can choose to reply. One option is: "Yes, maybe I am weird; you, on the other hand, are rude". And then walk away, don't engage any further. If you are consistent, sooner or later, they will get the message that their behaviour is offensive and unacceptable.
