There is a "clique" on WP, just like there are cliques everywhere. It's possible that the clique within Wrongplanet is easier to "get into.:

Is there?! !?

What are the signs? How do you know who is in and who is out?

I mean what are the parameters? What characteristics determine membership in this group?

I'm not aware of any cliques. I'm only aware that I'm never mentioned in the "Name someone on WP" type threads, so I suppose people are mostly unaware of my presence. Just like real life!

Yes me too its not real life and WP, although I do get noticed at school sometimes, its everywhere I go its the same situation but I guess people on internet would notice you less because they don't know you or see you or hear you

If you look at one of the "compliments" sections, you'll see the same people complimenting each other. Nobody else seems to feel able to enter that thread--I don't think that's the intention, though.

But there is a "clique"--though not necessarily an exclusionary clique.

It's made up of long-time members who know and trust each other. I believe there are many skeptics on the Site who will not accept "newbies" right away. Perhaps this is because some people, in the past, have abused their trust in the past. This is human nature--not wanting to be duped. That's one of the primary reasons why cliques emerge.

It's inevitable. It's human nature. Aspies are not exempt from human nature.

I wouldn't testify in court that there's definitely a clique on this Site, however. I'm just speculating.

I agree because people would compliment and like people who compliment and like them, its human nature I guess

Even WrongPlanet is not a Utopia--or a Dystopia.

The intention is for it to be a sanctuary for people with autism spectrum disorders. I believe, for the most part, that this intention is fulfilled.

Just like people who like Anime will want to hang out with people who like Anime. People who like Anime have their own language, and their own frames of references that people who are not knowledgeable about Anime will not be privy to. I have no knowledge of Anime, so I wouldn't be able to penetrate the "inner circle" of that group.

If one's definition of a "clique" happens to be one which deliberately excludes those not of that clique, then no cliques exist on WrongPlanet.

I had another screen name before this one, so I've been around for longer than people realize.

I'm glad I found this website, but I don't always feel like I fit in here. Most of the time, I do. I rarely feel like I fit in anywhere.

Thanks for the explanation, kraftie.

What you say makes sense.

I must confess to being unaware of "Compliments" threads, but they may just have fallen into the black hole of "things that seem uninteresting" that I just don't pay enough attention to for them to make any impression in my memory. I'm not even sure what board they would be on...

I don't feel like I don't fit in, but I don't feel like I completely fit in either.

I think it's Random Discussion, but it might be Off the Wall: Forum Games, Quizzes, Roleplaying, etc.. I saw it a few months ago, and although the people who posted most there seemed to be the people who were complimented most, there were some people who posted less often mentioned.

Those forums are flooded by attention-seeking no-lifers engaged in a race to inflate their post counts. They bury the posts of new members and literally spend hours spamming this forum every day. There is no quality, just quantity.

Not really.
But, that's kind of how I feel most of the time it just varies in intensity.

Here, I feel like I have a difficult time often relating to how some of the more vocal members tend to give and receive support. Not to say I'm not trying to adapt a bit. But also that could be due to any number of things, and is likely to some extent a perception and not completely correct.

I don't know. Who really feels like they fit in everywhere, though? Then what is your actual sense of self if you fit in any keyhole? I don't know this.

I think people participate in the games and random discussions for the same reasons that people talk about pointless things in real life. It makes them feel like part of a group or more like they fit in. It's some kind of social thing that I don't really understand but I do it anyway.

Here's a thread discussing counting games: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt269521.html

There are so many varying people on this site, not sure anyone 'fits in'...as there isn't really a singular main/normal group on the forum to compare anything to since the people here vary so much. But there are certainly some interesting people here and people I get along with and then I have ran into some I don't get along so well with. I think a lot of time it can have to do with other factors aside from the autism, like having different backgrounds even if sharing the same diagnoses.

If anything there would be multiple ones, but I have never noticed anything resembling a main clique for instance...and I have been on here for a few years now I am pretty sure.
