When I was about 11 I said something mean to some random girl in class and she sounded very hurt and said "I was the only one who stood up for you". I thought "did she? When? Who is she anyway?" Later I felt a bit guilty about that.

Yep, that sounds like a good principle to live by. I should try to curb my occasional meanness.

I do that quite often. We'd be in a shopping centre and I'd be looking for my partner. She'd be standing right in front of me and I wouldn't recognise her. I also get a lot of false positives as well.

I also have trouble telling the sex of some people even when it's blatantly clear to others.

yup, but her shtick was portraying an indeterminate gender character on Saturday night live. I've met in real life, people whose gender I could not determine without an examination.

I have a hard time recognizing people too. If I see them in an unexpected place, I'm not likely to even realize that they are someone I should recognize.

If someone changes something about their appearance one of two things will happen: I don't recognize then, or I don't see anything new.

In every class I was it took me a very long time to recognize everyone, and there would always be some individuals it would take me even longer to tell apart if they weren't next to each other. In one class I only saw on Fridays, I never learned everyone's names or looks.

I am not one to recognize actors from one series/movie to another. And I can have a hard time telling characters apart in a series or movie. When I started watching Friends, it took me many episodes before i was able to tell Phoebe from Rachel, or any of the guys apart.

when I was a kid I saw "go ask alice" on ABC-TV, and when William shatner appeared, I did not know that it was him, the same person I was familiar with on star trek! my dad had to tell me, "Hey, that's captain kirk!" but I still could not recognize him outside of his Starfleet uniform.

sort of common actually, it's called "Prosopagnosia"

i have some form of it as well, but i have adapted around it. instead of faces, i focus more on hair, glasses, body type and the like. voices are especially useful in recognizing people, if i can hear them talk.
it is quite possible to work around face-blindness, but you will always notice you got it.

Sometimes I am pretty good at recognizing faces but not always. I get embarrassed with that sometimes especially if I have known the person for awhile. But if I see the person out of context like in a place I would not expect to see him or her, I have a hard time recognizing him. I also took a facial recognition test and it had celebrities and famous people on it. I had even worked with some of them a couple of times when I was a singer. Out of thirty famous faces on the test I only recognized seven and they were faces like Mahatma Ghandi that were so unique that anyone could have recognized them. So I got a very poor result on that test. I think the time I was most embarrassed with face blindness was when I saw my brother's roommate at the ski resort with my brother and I had no idea who he was and I introduced myself as if we had never met.

I am but I have a rare low vision disorder & a problem with processing what I do see sometimes so I'm not a visual person.
