It's Market Day at Beccles and our Book Sale is open, with newly arrived stock being checked out right now. Our charity boutique, the A Shop, is also open with an eclectic mix of donated goods from fashions to furniture, plus electrical items too.

Both are located at 1a Market Street and we're open until 4.45, so please come and have a look!

Stuck in the dreary winter shadows? Need something to get the blood pumping? Maybe something with a bit of a BITE? :-o

From the vaults, we have unearthed some Vampire fiction to get your teeth into: True Blood, Twilight, Vampire Chronicles and even the original Dracula! Come to the A Shop and visit our (book)shop of horrors ... if you dare :)

If you seek more earthly delights, our charity boutique, the A Shop is also open today, along with a furniture sale and kindling for your open hearth fire.

( But we don't have any wooden stakes for those pesky vampires. Sorry :) )

A selection from our collection of Vampire fiction on sale today:

At Beccles next week (16th-20th February) we have a sale every weekday!

On Monday we are selling jumble and bric-a-brac, plus furniture; on Tuesday and Wednesday, it's furniture plus computers & electronics. Plus, we have our regular book sales on Thursday and Friday.

If you are looking for bargains, need something for the kids or the kitchen or simply want to replace that broken computer, we probably have something for you.

The sales are held in the upstairs rooms above the A-Shop at 1a Market Street, Beccles. Of course, the A-Shop is open too.

Please phone 01502 715500 if you require further information.

We hope to see you there!

Have you any packaging materials to spare? Boxes, bubble wrap, jiffy bags? Maybe you bought something that came with extra packaging?

The Asperger East Anglia electrical workshop at Beccles is in need of packaging supplies for sending items sold on eBay via our account workshopbecclesaea

This will help us and is good recycling too :)

Please contact us on 01502 715500 or email [email protected]

Any donations of packaging material gratefully received!

Beccles adult social group news

As many of you know, I work for Asperger East Anglia; I sell books, operate the Society's social media feeds and run the "Adults with Asperger" social group at Beccles.

I am also a member at Norwich Astronomical Society and have been for over four years, joining not long after I started attending the social groups. During that time, I have progressed to being part of a group of volunteers at Norwich Astronomical Society who help out and give talks at public outreach events. We host cub scout packs, schools and various special interest groups, so it seemed only logical to take the Asperger group along on a group visit.

I would like to thank my fellow club members Paul Webb, Andy Robertson, Steve Hubbard, Jeff Simpson, Paul Brocklehurst, Chris Greenfield and Shaun Reynolds for their help on Wednesday evening. In fact in all three capacities - Norwich Astronomical Society club member, Asperger East Anglia employee and adult with ‪‎Autism - I was please with support from my fellow group visit volunteers. It's SO nice to see people who care turning out to further the Club's aims of outreach to various groups as well as the general public :D

And a reminder for people living in or near Beccles: if you are over 18 and have Asperger Syndrome or HFA and wouuld like to meet others like yourself, why not come to our group meetings? A formal diagnosis is not required. We meet twice a month and have a stay-in-and-chat meeting at the end of the month and a go-out-and-do-stuff meeting at the beginning of the month.; there is a similar group for the Norwich area.

Details of the groups can be found on the Asperger East Anglia website.

Live/Work in or near Beccles? Then come and view the eclipse with us on Friday!

This Friday, 20th March, there will be a partial eclipse of the Sun between 8.30 and 10.40 and some of it will be visible from the A Shop yard, 1a Market Street, Beccles, NR34 9AQ; this is opposite "Appointment with Friends" and the Co-Op loading bay.

Weather permitting, we will hold an informal viewing session in the yard, using equipment designed for viewing the Sun safely.

I am a member of Norwich Astronomical Society, so there will be an actual amateur astronomer on hand to help!

Oh and SAFETY FIRST! Looking right at the Sun, even with the naked eye, let alone binoculars or a telescope is DANGEROUS. You could blind yourself permanently. Sunglasses, welder's glasses, exposed photographic film, etc., won't protect you.

Only solar safety goggles or purpose-designed astronomical equipment can be safe and only if looked after and used correctly.

A guide to SAFELY viewing an eclipse is available on-line from the R.A.S.

Have fun but be careful - see you there!
