I am reminded of this scary kind of absent-mindedness when I see this Alzheimer's PSA tv commercial depicting this poor woman who loses her car keys again for the umpteenth time, and her husband finds them in the refrigerator behind a carton of coffee creamer. he reassures her with "it's ok, baby." but it is NOT OK. I have been this absent-minded ever since I could remember, even as a child. does that mean I have the same kind of thing that a senile person has? is this premature senility? is this a part of AS? or ADHD [inattentive subtype]? who else here struggles with routine memory?

I'm the same way and always have been, ever since I was a child. I also have the ADHD + Autism combo, although for me it is the combined subtype of ADHD.
I can set off for a different room to get or do something and by the time I'm there I've forgotten why I went there in the first place. More often than not I get distracted by something, am not even aware I've forgotten....although every so often my attention wanders in space cadet fashion while my muscle memory continues working and I end up standing at the end-point of an autopilot-movement routine and sort of wake up and try to remember what I was doing (in which case I know I've forgotten something).
