I love to sit in the dark and listen to classical music. Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Wagner, Chopin, Lizt, any of these will do. Once that music comes flowing out of those speakers, I'm so far gone that even if someone wanted me to do something I'd never be able to pull myself away.
Reading is good too (though not in the dark, you'll ruin your eyes)...science fiction! Star Trek, Star Wars (though they are killing off characters left and right in that series), biographies, etc. anything good. Pick up a new book once in a while, though I mainly perseverate....I love reading favourite books again and again and again until I can recite whole passages.
This comes from a 17 year old girl who is a senior taking three AP classes and has swimming/band/and cross country after school every day. There must be time to chill out.
During the winter months I unwind by listening to classical and New Age music.
But when the weather warms up and days are long again I go for long bicycle rides
on the Heritage Rail Trail. This trail extends some 21 miles from York Pennsylvania,
where I live, all the the way to the Maryland border then another 20 miles to Ashland
Maryland. I've made the full 82 mile round trip many times.
I find the rhythmic peddling and quiet countryside to be very relaxing.
