did you ever find something in the street?
When I lived in the city, we would find heaps of stuff that people had thrown out, to the point of furnishing my whole house. If we ever wanted anything, we would just wait until we found it, we usually did. Found a 3 seater leather lounge once - nothing wrong with it, just needed a clean. We had to guard it until a mate came with a ute so we could get it home.
When I moved to the country I was really disappointed to find that they only throw out rubbish!! ! I still peer hopefully into skip bins, but gleaning in the country nets poor results. However I have taken up welding bits of steel together to form art projects and the variety of found steel shapes is quite good.

I find money all the time, I also have found toys in the street, I found a fast food beanie boo for an octopus. The poor thing lost the eyes and had a few holes so I patched them up and gave them new eyes after a bath. I have also found a pony once in a snow pile and took it home from work.
The best non-monetary items that I have found on the street was a bunch of old video game systems that someone had thrown out of their apartment for some reason. I asked about it and yes, it was stuff that they wanted gone with the trash pickup. There were three large milk crates full of this stuff that I got. We are talking multiple Ataris (2600s, 5200), NES and SNES consoles with many of the games (around 200+ of them). A few of the NES games were still NIB (ie never been played), but no NES robot or power glove. Still, not a bad score overall. Wish I could do that more often.

Do you mean the dude was your son's "friend," and didn't want to get arrested for theft if the wallet was turned in and it became known that he'd taken some of the cash?
I mean that his friend took some of the money and my son turned the wallet in with the rest of it and the ID. The dude was the guy who owned the wallet. He threatened to kick my son's ass because the friend took half the money and then wouldn't answer his phone or anything when the dude called him wanting his money back. My son gave the wallet dude the friend's phone number, and hadn't taken anything. Because he couldn't get to the friend, he was gonna take it out on my son. Nobody in this situation was going to be contacting any police for any reason. The dude was just an ass to my son, when my son had done the right thing and told his friend no he wasn't gonna keep the money in there, it was a bunch of it and a Friday night so it was obviously the dudes paycheck and it wasn't right. All my son got from it was a hassle. Dude was gonna take it out on him because he wasn't gonna ride out to the friends house because the friends mother was living with a psycho guy and it would be dangerous to go out there. So, he decided to take it out on my son (this guy was about 19 or so) and put the word out that he was gonna kick my son's ass. He didn't come to our house to call him out cause it's not real safe to do that either, even though we aren't psycho's.
I didn't explain it very well, I see that after I reread it.

Best I've found is 1k php (around 20$). But no one is around, and I never get to find the owner.
Non-monetary part was a pair of broken glasses. The frame was probably expensive, but broken and unusable. Probably got stepped on many times.
The rest are random items like handkerchiefs, clothes, flip flop pieces, shoe pieces, combs, rubber bands, some toys/dolls, empty ragged bags,... Littering is everywhere in urban places here, and scavenging beggars are everywhere as well. They usually knock at houses and gates to collect metal and bottles.

You probably explained it well enough for most people. Makes perfect sense now, thanks.
Rotten experience, trying to do the right thing and getting treated like a crook for it.
half my collection is from things i find on the street, Hell i HAVE a collection of small items i find on the street.

Speaking of finding things in the street, etc, here is a funny story.
Back in the 80's when I was single and dating, I worked at a convenience store/gas station. I worked evening shift. One of the guys I worked with was doing a lot of coke. In fact, a lot of us were doing coke then. Anyway, I'll call the guy Damien, that's close to his real name. Damien used to do this thing at work in the evenings before the "going out" rush of people coming in to get gas and cigs before they went out partying. He would get a baggie and put a little dextrose in it, cut and burn it sealed like coke was and drop it on the floor near the beer coolers and fountain drinks, but in sight of us by the register. He would watch people see it and look around and pick it up and slip it in their pockets and how happy they were suddenly when they came up to pay for the stuff they bought. He loved doing that. It was folks who do coke who would recognize it and grab it, take it home and try to do it and find out that it was only cut.
He always wanted to put a $20 bill on fishing line and pull it across the lot with somebody chasing it, but never did.
I loved working there. I hung out with a group of friends after work over in the KMart parking lot next door. Why we hung out there, I don't know, but we would park in the side lot after they closed and sit there and hang out and maybe drink beer or wine coolers. We were the age group of 16 to maybe 23. One of the older guys was a cop so we never got in trouble for drinking there, and nobody got drunk and drove or anything. Some people smoked pot but the one who was a cop who hung out there on his off days cause he went to high school with a some folks in the group, had given up weed but others still discreetly smoked it. They would all come over to the station and get drinks and cigs and snacks during the evening and I'd join them after work at 11. We hung out there till about 2 or 3am.
Well, we also had these slushee machines in the back with two containers for slushees. We always had two flavors going but sometimes one would be out of order. When we got the pina colada flavor in, I asked my boss if I could just buy a thing of mix and put an out of order sign on the machine and make the pina colada slushees but put a bottle of rum in it and sell it to my friends. My boss, being a drunk and pretty cool, said sure. So about once a week, on a weekend, we would sell actual pina coladas to people we knew in there. And we could drink them as well as long as we didn't get drunk and the register was within $1 when we did the count. I did the register and I was always within $1. Damien used to do coke in the cooler and he would leave his mirror out back there with his lines on it. His friends would come in and go back in the cooler with him and do some. Occasionally I would, but I usually didn't at work.
Ah, the 80's.

Oh wait! The previous poster mentioned cats. How could I forget our stray Christmas dog we got this year!! !! !! I have to tell you about him!
We have two high content wolf husky hybrids. We have had them for years and when one of them gets out, our neighbors know it's ours and call us. They are not dangerous, just big. They also run a lot. Well, about a week before Christmas I was working on some decorations and my neighbor called and said she thought our dog was out. She just saw him across the highway by the cow farm. I was looking at both our dogs and told her no, it must be somebody elses.
The next day I was going to the store and another neighbor flagged us down. They had seen the dog on our street and had grabbed him and asked if he was ours. He wasn't but he was beautiful! A black and white classic looking husky. He came right over to my car and hopped up and stuck his head in my window. He was beautiful, but dirty. Obviously somebody's pet, even without a collar. Nobody did anything. People petted him and waited to see if he went home or what. He barked at my dogs through the fence and I just wanted him to go away because they started digging and biting and all that s**t. he just stood there looking at them.
The next day he was still around and so we fed him. I called the dog catcher and the cops to see if he had been reported missing. He hadn't. I tried to get hold of a shelter for him and fed him, and let him hang out in the front yard. I decided to try and find his owner. My daughter and her fiance had been out of town and came home and saw him and fell in love. He used to raise huskies and breed them. They brought the dog in her room for the night. After that he lived here. We took him to the vet the next day and found out he had a chip, called the owners who had given him away to her brother who had given him away and nobody knew where he ended up. So he was ours.
Meanwhile, our behind us neighbors, the preacher and his wife and kid had wanted this dog. They have no fence or other dogs. Huskies require other dogs because of the pack mentality or they will be destructive. They are also not good off a leash and out of a fence. The wife came to our door that night. We told her that maybe she could have him if we couldn't find the owner. SHe kept on and said a bunch of stuff so I just let her take him home with her. Then I realized the lies she said to me. SHe told me she took him to the vet by Walmart, here near the house to find out abotu the chip. I had told her he had a chip and she said she knew, she took him there and found out. That vet doesn't have a chip reader, the big animal vet uptown has one. She told me she had kept him in the house overnight the night before and he was here. She said that she had an appointment to have him groomed at the same vet, which doesn't do grooming. I mentioned this to my younger daughter, the animal freak, and she went over and told them she's taking her damn dog back. Some guy from there came over in a truck and yelled at her from the road that he was gonna get the damn dog and call the law, etc. After that we decided to keep him for good.
The preacher wasn't done yet. He sent another neighbor over to ask to buy him. My daughter and I said no, we aren't selling him! Yes, he is a purebred dog, but he's not for sale! He was settled in here by then and happy and got along with the other dogs and had found his place in their pack. Then Christmas eve another guy came over, sent by the preacher. My son went out there and I did too. Now, this guy was about 5-6, with muscles but not too big, and he had the demeanor of one of those boys who thinks he's Billy BadAss. At least until he actually meets Billy BadAss. My son who was a head and a half taller than him and had about 75 lbs on him was polite, kept telling him no we won't sell the dog, etc. The guy was stone faced and kept saying "Name your price". I kept giving him the death stare. My son was polite cause this guy obviously had a problem. He told him "You need to sell him that dog". By then my son was tired of dealing with this Motherf***er, and the attitude the guy was giving. He told him "No, you need to get the f**k off my porch and out my damn yard here on Christmas Ever 'fore I have to throw a good whipping on your ass, cause that's whats about to happen". The guy left. We haven't heard from them again.
But yeah, I found our new dog in the street. HE IS THE BEST! I don't get attached to new animals easily and I never say that yes we can have another dog, but I fell for this one immediately. He was obviously a show dog, we can tell by how he walks on a leash and in the harness. He's taken up with my daughter's fiance and keeps down there with them most of the time. He took right up with him. The fiance buys him stuff and they are getting him professionally groomed and he's going to modify his bike that he doesn't ride anymore so the dog can pull him on it for the dogs fun. Huskies like that s**t for some reason. So, when they eventually move out, this dog might go with them, but he's his dog now. He walks him a lot and runs with him and has the stamina and strength to play with him and hold him at a run.

I forgot to mention that I found a shopping cart aways away from it's store. I pushed it to our townhouse apartment & chained it to our step rail so me & my girlfriend could use it to bring our laundry to the laundromat which is close by instead of having the carry the bags.
