Think I was about seven or eight. Remember I got kicked in the shin by the 'Golden girl/school brainiac' at school because I just had no idea how to do it. My Laces still come undone now...

Well, laces are a bit thinner and sometimes smoother, than I remember. ALSO, some are round, etc... Because of that, I usually tie each shoe TWICE, just so they don't come undone!

I had a lot of trouble with this. I don't remember specifically, but it was a royal pain.

I still remember the first time I tied them by myself. See, I was sitting by the front door getting on my boots to go play in the snow. And from memory, I laced them up all on my own! I remember being so happy I had finally figured it out and memorized it! :)

I was in kindergarten...However, I couldn't figure out how to do it the way my mum was showing me, so I kinda "made up" my own method which I found easier....the result looked the same.

I never did learn. I still wear velcro. Actually I don't mind so much but it's a bit of a pain sometimes. :)

six. One of the teachers at my school decided it was time I learned how to tie my shoes and my teacher agreed and she called my parents and told them about it and they agreed too so my mother taught me how to tie my shoes. Whenever I needed my shoes tied, she'd have me to it myself by following me through the steps.

I didn't learn until I was 17 or 18. In Kindergarden they tried to teach me but just gave up.

I was 6 when I learned to tie my shoes. I was humiliated in front of my kindergarten class many times for being the last in class to learn. Part of the reason is my mom is Native American so I did not wear shoes that you tied until I started going to school. I ran barefoot most of the time when I was outdoors summer or winter, wore moccasins sometimes and when we went to town I wore sandals or snowboots. Velcro hadn't been invented when I was in grade school.

nobody makes velcro shoes for adults.

They do make adult velcro shoes. Sometimes they are labeled as diabetic shoes though I have no idea why diabetics would need velcro fastened shoes. They also have velcro old people's sneakers which I am assuming is to help people with arthritic hands to put their own shoes on. My dad is only 67 but he's wearing those old people sneakers now, but I think its just because he hates tying laces. Walmart and Kmart usually stock them. Or diabetic shoes are sold places like www.footsmart.com

BTW- I love your avatar and your username!

They do sell them in Britain. Why? Because I wear them! The best supplier I have found of these sorts of shoes in the UK is a company called Cosyfeet (http://www.cosyfeet.co.uk) and they do velcro and wide-fitting shoes. I have extremely wide feet so I get my shoes from there. They aren't cheap - mine cost me about £45-£50 - but I think they're well worth it.

I think I was 6 or 7 when I learned. I had a shoe I practiced with (ie: not wearing), and can remember being quite excited when I managed it for the first time.
