Being childlike is a good thing! Most people suppress their playful, inquisitive side to fit in as they get older and are expected to act in more "mature" ways. Most of my fellow students going from school to college (at 16) "miraculously" changed from childish school kids to topshop-obsessed car fanatics with "mature" walks and everything lol. This in the space of A 6-week school holiday. I could see they were acting, but as they grew older they really did mature and I had to admit I was immature in comparison to most, but only in the way I dressed and interacted with people. I still had what people called "an old head" on me.

I'd say I feel 6 and 86. I'm 29. I always said I feel like I have half the brain of a young girl, and half of an old wise chinese man. I'm not sure why Chinese haha. Maybe I'd heard old Chinese proverbs or something?

It varies a lot. Sometimes I think about my actual age, 25, and it seems beyond strange.

It's weird, because it varies.. I think socially and emotionally I am in my early teens/pre-teens varying from the age of 10 to 14 years of age, but mentally I am much older in other aspects, I have always been known to extremely mature for my age, my mum always says I am an old woman trapped in a child's body, however I am still trailing behind my peers in terms of maturity in other respects.

I think I am half young and half old. Haha

I don't know exactly, but I know I feel like an older child/young teenager. It all depends on my mood too. Like, it's really hard for me to explain. I'm 26 physically, but I act nowhere near my actual age whatsoever. I also agree that when I think of myself as being 26, it feels quite strange to me. It just doesn't to fit at all.

Probably about 25 sometimes (I'm nearer to 50 in truth) particularly when it comes to authority - never really "got" how seriously people take things at work.

Funny thing is I still 'respect' and mind what I say in front of 'older' people -- but in many cases when I think about it, they are actually younger than I am, but I still see them through the same eyes I did 30 years ago!

I feel like I'm at least 10 years younger than I really am because I can be really soft spoken and awkward when I interact with others, especially when I don't get enough sleep. I think this makes me seem even more shy than I really am. I'm also clumsy and look younger than 24. It's kind of hard for me to believe that I'm almost 25.

It's contradictory for me. Age and the expected social behaviour that comes with it seem to be as removed from my experience as gender and all the crap that comes with that. I'm not fitting in to any of it. In some ways, as I said over in the other thread, I feel very childlike because I still have that sense of ... Interest? Wonder? At very mundane things, as kids do. Piles of leaves, puddles of water, light, smooth grass. I also have very little grasp of an adult hierarchical social image. I never developed that whole desire to be "cool" as a teenager which seems to morph into slightly different forms, yet still remain in normal adults. In many ways I'm still as straight forward as a child would be.
But then at the same time, I've worked technical jobs, jobs taking care of other people, I've travelled, studied, I live independently, I've dealt with serious illness on my own, I manage my own life - all of which are adult traits, or so I'm informed. The therapist is always telling me I'm intelligent and my thinking style and emotional control are actually higher than many people he sees. This I've had to conclude that this normal scale of measuring maturity used by NT society simply does not apply in my case. I operate too differently.

NEVER let go of what Buddhists like to call "beginner mind"~~~that total openness to what IS, unconditioned, playful, inquisitive, filled with wonder, awe, and questions.
Never let that go.
It is freedom and joy. :D

I get the half young/half old thing. I feel like half of me is a child and half an elderly person as well.

I don't know. A lot of the time I feel older than I am, and I kind of prefer to be around adults rather than people my age. But at the same time I often get told that I behave like someone several years younger.

It's hard for me to say I guess

A lot of adults speak to me like I'm not there for some reason :( Teenagers are.... teenagers, always making weird comments because I'm too awkward to know how to react. I don't see kids a lot and it'd be weird and I probably share no interests, so I fit nowhere really. 8O
