On the use of asperger or ASD or autism, I find I prefer to say I'm on the autism spectrum, though I'm not opposed to seeing aspie or anything like that. I sought my diagnosis just as the DSM5 came out, so I don't have an asperger diagnosis, though I probably would have the year prior.
Humans in general will find anything to insult anyone else with, whether it's a diagnosis, a name, a funny looking mole. They will find something.

Asperger's Syndrome is no longer an official name of the condition in many countries, is it?

It may have been removed in DSM V but those who were diagnosed with it still carry the diagnosis, just no new ones are made under the DSM V.

Not to mention is still exists under the ICD 10.

The ICD 10 is international, the DSM V is more of a US thing.

At least to my knowledge anyway.

DSM 5 Diagnostic Criteria - Autism Spectrum Disorder
Quote:
Individuals with a well-established DSM-IV diagnosis of autistic disorder, Asperger’s disorder, or pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified should be given the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.

And that name is so silly since you can't find meaningful definition by a doctor's name.Call it Autism spectrum is far more better.

So sorry you were ever insulted and mis-using that word against you is deplorable....you did not deserve that. If it is any consolation, always remember that Hans Asperger was a good man and an excellent researcher. In fact, he strongly advocated for Asperger's individuals (but we were not labeled as such then) in opposition to the occupation of Germany (re: CryosHypnoAeon). Whichever term that is used, there can be real advantages too.

less potential for those intending to disparage us.

Hans Asperger was not given his last name to belittle people whose syndrome would be named after him

1. He did not name the syndrome
2. His last was was not pronounced similar to "Ass burgers"
3. ASS BURGERS is the Americanization of his last name
3. Ass is not a synonym for buttocks in Austria "burger" is American shorthand for hamburger a ground beef sandwich
4. Hans Asperger had more important things to worry about then figuring out that Americans would bastardize his last name 60 years later and use the bastardized name to bully people who had a syndrome he did not know would be named after him. He worried about his Autistic patients from being killed by the Nazi eugenics program that was going on at the time.

So you don't use Aspergers because the mispronounced name is "wrong" or used to bully you. Your choice. Plenty of stigmas surround the word Autism. They say all the same things about "mild" or "high functioning " autism as Aspergers it's a fake disease, you are to normal to have it, suck it up you lazy bastard etc etc. And the stigmas surrounding autism in general are numerous. So I guess we need to stop using the word Autism now.

The above rant was somewhat sarcastic but the point I am was trying to make is serious. Bully's are always going to try and find out what to makes you feel bad and pounce on it. Running, caving in is a temporary solution only. At some point one has to say no more, otherwise you are going to spend your whole life running away, caving in an ultimately believing every bad thing everybody says about you. For me saying no more starts with the name of a condition that honors the person who was the first advocate for autistics and the condition that describes me well.

Many of them are also of the tinfoil-hat crowd - those who propagate Conspiracy Theories of every kind, while attacking and insulting anyone who knows better and who openly disagrees with them.

Their words are useless, and serve no purpose other that to incite discord and mistrust.

Like Ban-Dodgers post that calls stuff that has a basis that builds upon each other as indoctrination. Yes conspiracy kooks piss me off a lot because they think they find truths when they present flawed theories based on paranoia and call everyone else who disagree brainwashed or shills or agents.

And to Ban-Dodger on psychiatry. Psychiatry in its modern form as it is in most countries (including Germany) comes from the late 1800s. Nazi-era psychiatry isn't practiced in most of the world (if in the US or UK, then I wouldn't be surprised) but conditions are not uniform, it may vary strongly by country. What you are claiming is that we still have Nazi-era (1933-45) psychiatry. However if we had it, the undesirables would have been gassed already.
