Olympiadis, your experience sounds a little like PTSD symptoms. I'd probably hate fireworks too if I'd been in your situation.

I hate the high pitched whistling sound they make as they go up, and the explosions, but as long as I wear earplugs, I kind of like the crackling sound they make as they come down. I also like the bright colours and different shapes. The huge ones are my favourites, even though they're really loud.

July 24 (a.k.a. Pioneer Day) is the date of the arrival of Mormons into the Salt Lake Valley. While it isn't statehood day (that is January 6), Pioneer Day is a celebration complete with fireworks. So, the whole month of July is a nightly cacophony of noise. Every year, the legislature tries to find that perfect balance between celebrants and sleepers. I am among those that despise hearing explosions at midnight. Clearly, it isn't kids making the noise. It is probably just some drunks with the budget to afford some noise. New Year's Eve is another time for fireworks. Luckily, the average nightly temperature for December 31 is about 10F degrees, it doesn't last long.

When I was a kid, I preferred sparklers and non-explosive fireworks. They are much more polite in neighborhood settings.

I've always loved to watch fireworks, but I don't like the noise. I hate loud noises.

They frighten animals. I had a dog that got so frightened of fireworks she panted and tried to hide her face in dark corners and kept jumping on my lap.
Humans are so noisy.

My cats also get very frightened by it on new years eve, they hide themselves under the bed and when it is finished and they realize it they stick very close to me,
but I like the visual image of fireworks a lot, not the noise, but I cover my ears, but my cats cannot cover their ears.
But I like the images of firework drawn into the sky.

I really enjoy fireworks, and I like the sound they make. But I can see how it would be disturbing to a person with a military background. Last night people were setting them off all over the community. It put me in mind of being in a war zone. But the neighbors set off some really nice ones that I could see. My cats were sitting up in the window watching.

My younger brother's dog hid underneath my desk for the duration of the fireworks on Saturday evening.

I really like looking at them but they are way too loud. The only ones I like the sound of are the ways that fizzle as they go up and they make no bang.

I don't like the sound of them. Neither do my cats.

I do like looking at them, but not when they're exploding into bright colors. I've always liked seeing the smoky trails they leave behind. The next firework illuminate the ghosts of the previous ones. It looks a bit ominous, but I've always found that sort of thing beautiful.

I was surprised my cats didn't hide, normally they hide at the least little thing. One is hiding under the sofa right now because it rained for a few minutes. But last night he was sitting up in front of the window with another cat, pretty as a picture, watching the fireworks.

I wish my cats would watch it, but they don't do it at all.
They do hiding, they are extremely afraid of the noise.
Luckily here it only happens at new years eve in the fully amount.

I like the sight and sound of fireworks if I've decided to watch (and hear) them. I hate them if they're going off outside when I'm trying to get something done or sleep, especially if they're going off outside the official date and time (i.e. November 5th, or July 4th in the US). I've never experienced bombs and bullets going off in a dangerous setting like the OP probably has, but I've noticed how the sound of fireworks resemble the soundtrack of a WWI movie, so I can see how he might take a different view to mine.

I feel sorry for animals when they set off fireworks. Most of them seem to hate it, not surprisingly.

I have such big problems with them that I actually usually travel out to my relatives house where the nearest neighbor is 10 miles away and the house is well insulated so I don't have to hear or see them especially since they tend to put me in their furnished basement, they have designed it to be a special retreat for me with dimming lights, and other special things to help me stay calm or even as a safe retreat when I am going through an extremely rough time.

I don't care about the noise, but there are too many idiots sending up fireworks. They start fires, cause injuries, scare the bejesus out of most pets and wildlife, and they can also release toxins into the environment.
For those reasons I think they should be banned.
To say nothing of the balloon releases!

I used to be terrified of fireworks as a kid, but now I love them and seek out fireworks shows!
