unusual/irrational fears?
I forgot. As a kid I travelled the world and learned about strange and scary diseases through the family encyclopedia. I became terrified by disfiguring conditions, and anything, that might affect the hearing and thereby isolate me. For years I tested my hearing and looked for signs of neurofibromatosis and my body seemed to me an unexploded health bomb That was full blown hypocondria. Awful, really.
Not exactly unusual, but not that common in six year olds, I expect.

In terms of sounds, well there have been songs that have scared the snot out of me.
One is a Beach Boys song called "Heroes and Villians". I'm telling ya the song is pure evil... well, I guess that's subjective, but still. I would be frightened, and it would cause me to imagine monsters coming out to get me and the melodies gave my mind a sense of hopelessness.
My mom would try to consul me by saying that song is not one of the popular ones. You don't hear it in shampoo commercials. No dah mom, it would frighten all the customers away!

From Sonic CD, the US version of Wacky Workbench and Quartz Quadrant bad future mixes would scare me, but not near as bad. Nowadays, I like it. Spencer Nilsen had a very unique atmospheric style.

Ah, sounds... The THX sound that plays before some movies still scares me. It's known as the 'Deep Note'. Absolutely terrifying.

marcb0t, I just had a listen to 'Heroes and Villains' and yeah, I found it a bit creepy!
On another note, I've always had an irrational fear of randomly becoming pregnant, even after I learned how babies are actually made.

You just reminded me, when I was about 7, I was wearing a badge and the pin came loose and dug a millimetre or two into my chest. It didn't even draw blood, but for the rest of the day I was convinced I'd damaged my heart and that it was going to stop beating. For some reason I kept the idea to myself. Could have saved myself a lot of anxiety if I'd just told somebody and been reassured that I wasn't about to die. I could probably even have worked it out for myself.

Nooooo! Myriad! I should have warned you not to listen to that song!

So sorry you had to experience that. There is probably a nice thread on the PTSD boards to help us out.

THX, you know, early this morning I was actually thinking about that movie format and loud sound. Weird coincidence. I actually almost like it except for how loud it gets. The dissonant string glissandos probably don't help leading up to the Deep Note at the end. "The audience is now deaf"

Can't say I've ever had a fear of getting randomly pregnant, seeing that I'm male rob0t and all. But there is another weird fear.
I use to be obsessed with Tails the two tailed fox from the Sonic series when I was 9 or 10 years old. I would make up stories in my head and would always choose Tails whenever I played Sonic games.
Well, I use to be paranoid that people would read my thoughts and discover my little word fantasy world. I also was afraid that I would grow 2 fluffy fox tails from my backside. And everyone would see it and be weirded out.

Nowadays, I kind of wish I could totally transform into Tails, and no longer care if people can read my thoughts.

Ironically, Tails is also an aviation mechanic in the story lines, and also has blue eyes, and has been 10 years old for the last 2 decades.
I know, I'm quite a weirdo.

I'm okay, truly! Wasn't too traumatised.

That's funny about you thinking about THX. I admit it is a brilliant composition but it just scares me! 'The audience is now deaf': so true.

Being a weirdo is a good thing.
