Has anyone here been actually diagnosed with Asperger's?
My diagnostic appointment is in 5 days time in the UK.
There was some dithering about whether I should be referred by my psychologist but once the referral was made (after I did a personality disorder test, met no full criteria but scored highly in areas which overlap with ASD). Once the referral was made it will have been less than 4 months from first referral on the NHS to appointment.
They mailed me the EQ and SQ questionnaires plus developmental history questionnaires. I scored above cut off so an appointment was offered.
I was very anxious so they sent me the interview questions. There will be two clinicans evaluating me, one of whom is a speech and language therapist/autism lead but I haven't been in contact with the other so I haven't seen their title in the email sign off. They decide whether autism assessment tools are needed and are trained in both the ADOS and the DISCO. They said that they think the DISCO is unreliable without an informant so they will decide whether to do the ADOS on the day.
The NHS trust website pathway information says that there will be a 4 hour assessment but I've been offered 3 hours (maybe because I don't have an informant from my early developmental period) but I am allowed to take 30 minutes of videos.
There is then an hour and a half of diagnostic follow up session.
If a diagnosis is made or one isn't but they decide it would be beneficial then they offer another hour and a half of solution focused support.
I was diagnosed about three weeks ago, in the US. From the time I made my first appointment to the final meeting to discuss the results was about 5-6 weeks. There was an initial interview appointment, a week later a testing appointment, then about a month or so after that a final meeting to discuss the results.
However prior to that I had evaluative testing done to look for a possible learning disability, which I did not have. Part of that testing revealed probable ASD and ADHD, but they did not do those evaluations for adults, so I had to go to elsewhere to get the final diagnosis. The initial educational evaluation took about 10 weeks because of the holidays.
