I saw a consultant regarding recent vertigo late last year.
He told me it was due to a former ear infection which I don't ever remember having so I'm somewhat skeptical about that.
I've had tinnitus for as long as I can remember as well having to process what someone's said before I can reply to it.

I don’t know what is considered “a lot” of ear infections. I know I had ear infections but I don’t know if would have been considered an excessive number.

I’ve had tinnitus (ringing) ever since I can remember. I have specific memories of lying in bed as a small child listening to the ringing. However the school nurse always said my hearing was above average. Even so, I often have to ask people to repeat what they are saying – the words often sound like a mumbled mess to me, even when I am consciously trying to listen.

I had a LOT of ear infections when I was a child... they were both great in number and long in duration. I was always checked for my hearing but it was 'normal', lol. I don't see what's normal about it, my sense of hearing is a lot greater than that of the average person and I tend to get things mixed up if there is more than one source of sound.

I had a lot of ear infections when I was a kid. My right ear has been hurting quite a bit lately. I went to the doctor not to long ago and they thought they might have seen some fluids, and gave me some meds for it, but it didn't really do anything. I think I am going to have to go back.
