I'm the kind of Aspie they call "Active But Odd"! I do what I have to do to exist but I don't put on the airs and graces for anyone! And I don't even know what normal is, let alone pretend to be it!

OMG. This is awesome, I have not heard this term yet. Maybe I am it, too! I work and have had the same career for 18 years at the same college, where everyone knows about me and I am pretty accepted, all things considered. I am certainly considered odd, but have worked super hard at being very polite and "mostly harmless", which seems to be working. :D
I am pretty upfront about lacking certain social skills, and so most people accept that, and explain things to me, or at least try to be considerate. I am just very, very lucky that I have this environment, because trying to work in a new one would certainly lead to disaster! I do not always disclose, but I do give my students an intro about me to help them understand. This works, most of the time.
