I always been a very picky eater but I've gradually gotten less picky over the years. Due to the pickiness & the fact that I don't/cant cook I used to eat one big meal a day & barely eat anything the rest of the time except snacks. I've gotten better about that after I moved in with my girlfriend 3 years ago. i eat three meals a day now & I don't pig out as much when I do eat.

Not sure if this would be considered abnormal or not - I eat plain, Greek yoghurt with almonds and frozen blueberries on top, twice a day, and have done so, every single day, for the past several years.

I have to have my meals served on a plain, white dish/bowl, no paterns, designs or colors at all. If I go to the market or farmers market and I eat while I am there, I cannot use any colored utensils. Utensils must be made of corn, wood, or, stainless steel-very small in scale. if there are only plastic utensils, they must be white or clear and I will only use white or cream colored napkins. Contrary to the aforementioned, most/all of the foods I eat (with the exception of yogurt and ice cream) are vibrant and rich in color. The white makes my food look most appealing and quite beautiful, at that. I have additional food related quirks, but the things listed, above, affect me the most.

I eat the same meals every day and really stress if run out, miss the meal. On the plus side my shopping list very easy.

Yes, unique ways to consume bio-matter.

My preferred way of eating corn on the cob is twisting the kernels off and eating the one at a time. I take them off in a sort of spiral pattern. It's kind of fun.

I do this too. It leaves a perfectly cleaned cob with no waste.

I also eat one thing at a time.

It brings order to chaos.

Me too. Changes can cause anxiety or be stressful.

I overeat almost compulsively and I'm technically obese. I wish I could sort myself out really but it is hard.

In addition to this I tend to eat the same thing over and over again for weeks and months on end before I get sick of it and switch to something else. For example I went through a period years back where I almost always ate porridge oats for all 3 main meals. More recently I went through a phase of eating nothing but soup and now I'm eating almost exclusively tinned foods like baked beans or macaroni cheese....... literally open the can, put into a bowl and heat it up.... no side dish, no fruit, no vegetables........

My portion sizes are massive and the feeling eating and being stuffed to the point of nausea somehow makes me feel relaxed and calm, but being fat makes me depressed and anxious. On the rare occasions I manage to moderate the quantity I end up obsessing about food all day.

This is not healthy or normal at all.

Yes, it is. Well, actually my good (HDL) cholesterol is quite high, while the bad (LDL) is very low. According to my medical practitioner, my cholesterol is as good as can be. : )

In addition, I am 50, however, I am told my heart appears to be in the same condition as a 20 year old athlete. I do eat very well. I do indulge, on occasion, though. My favorite indulgences are ice cream, dark chocolate and hoppy, bitter beer. I suppose I am getting way off topic, now.

This might be pretty common but I never mix foods together on the plate and have to always eat each item on the plate completely before I move on to the next.

I've gone through stages of ednos (changed to osfed in dsm 5 tho) and anorexia for the last 12 years.

also, when I was 7 I stopped eating meat because I hated the texture so much, and the taste as well, and when I was forced to eat it I would cry.

My top five eating quirks:

1. Like several others here, I hate different foods touching each other on my plate. At home I'll serve each of my items on separate dishes. Maybe I should have been Jewish as this is often part of their Kosher business?
2. I'll use separate utensils for each item and eat "sequentially", meaning that at a Thanksgiving type meal I'll eat all my turkey first, then finish the mashed potatoes and gravy, then I'll move on to the corn until it's all gone, and finally to my dinner roll. Never will I take "a bite of this then a bite of that" or mix my foods like some previously have stated. In addition, if I'm eating something like pancakes that needs to be cut up, I'll cut them up with my fork compleatly before I start eating them, in other words, none of that carving, then taking a bite, then carving the next bite. FWIW, I lack the hand coordination to simultaneously use a fork and knife at the same time, so I'll only cut with my fork. In addition I'll use a fork to eat pizza as well, but this is as much of an issue with lacking my back teeth.
3. No bitter or sour foods, EVER. The only veggies I'll eat are starches like corn and potatoes. I don't care for salt much, either, but I'll use lots of pepper on certain items. I attribute this issue directly to my SPD, which causes "supertasting".
4. Nothing "piping hot" for me due to my SPD. I like my food best when it's just a little warmer than body temperature.
5. I have to wash down my meals with something cold, sweet flavoured, and carbonated. No plane water or milk!

I know some of my odd rituals have embarassed my spouse sometimes when we eat out, especially "sit-down" style.

When I was a young child, I would pick all of the toppings and the cheese off of pizza, and only eat the thin, soft, lumpy layer of bread with the sauce. I would not eat the crust or the bottom of the bread either. I'm still not much of a pizza eater, but I will eat the whole slice rather than just that one tiny layer. It's best when I can get extra sauce and light on the cheese, although now I like all sorts of veggies on it.

I used to not like my food touching, but I outgrew that. However, I still tend to eat one thing at a time before moving on to the next item.

I guess this isn't really abnormal, but I love really intense flavors, especially spicy heat and sour. Some of my favorite snacks are popcorn saturated with hot sauce and lots of lime powder or juice on top, hot pickles, and hot potato chips.

I only like certain flavors as well. I can't stand bitter or sour things so I like sweet things best. Spicy things are okay as long as they aren't too intense.
