Well, I suppose no one wants anxious people in the traffic so I guess yes, many will keep a distance. I'm not sure which other reactions it may cause though...

I agree. Most will probably give you more space. Unfortunately, that doesn't rule out the occasional psychopath who'll like the idea of giving you an anxiety attack. I think it would be an interesting experiment. The average might come out better, or it might come out worse.

People have this strange thing where if it's clear that something upsets you, they will deliberately do it more, unless they're your friend. Like when it's raining and I'm walking on the side of the sidewalk that's furthest away from the road to avoid getting splashed by cars, and car-drivers see me doing that and decide to put a speed on to try and see if they can still soak me.

So my point is I don't think other drivers will take any notice of your bumper unless they're Aspies or other non-NT themselves.

You can't really win in an NT world.

Sometimes when I am in the fast lane going 80 I get tailgators. If 80 aint fast enough for someone than I dont know WHAT to do either. One time I just stayed in my lane, and continued at 25 mph over the spead limit instead of the even higher speed the other guy wanted to go just to see if he would do the work of trying to pass me. But then the traffic situation all changed, and we all had to slow down anyway. Never go to see the end of that drama.

BeaArthur, why is going the speed limit considered "holding others up"? Is it just generally expected that everyone is always going to be going too fast for no real reason? I guess I was thinking of mountain driving. When the roads are very curvy and passing would be impossible, it is just considered courteous driving to pull out into the numerous wide-spots so that others can get where they're going. There may even be laws some places that if you have 5 or so vehicles behind you, you are required to pull off. It doesn't so much apply to city driving on straight roads.

I have really missed you too StarTrekker. I have been out of it lately and I have been spending lots of time in places that don't have internet. I come to check WP periodically but it's been hard to come regularly. I am really glad to see you here though. I will definitely check into this thread again when I can to see how you are doing with the driving. I know you will do great.

I haven't heard of that law but I do know that if you're going significantly under the speed limit, you can be pulled over. I don't know if that itself is a law specifically (it probably is) but a cop will definitely have a word with a driver who is slowing traffic to a crawl by going too far under the speed limit and that the cop may suspect drinking or some other issue and want to rule it out. I have known people who got pulled over for this - just one or two, but I know of it happening, because it's actually considered unsafe and a possible red flag that something's going on with the driver. I can't remember if the people got citations or anything but I do know the cop gave the driver a talking-to about how the way-too-slow driving could be potentially dangerous as people would invariably try to get around the driver, or might be expecting the speed limit, pull out and hit the driver while slowing down or whatever (IIRC).

This doesn't describe the OP, who isn't going under the speed limit, this is a reply to the post I quoted above.
