I freely admit I'm not being scientific in my thoughts on this, because my sample size is 1. My reaction to Baron-Cohen's theory is based solely on myself (as a female dx'd w/AS)-have never knowingly met another aspie.
I bought his book "The Essential Difference" & took the systematizing (SQ) & empathizing (EQ) self-tests included. Then I had my (NT) boyfriend take those same tests. Results: He was both high systematizing & high empathizing. I was very low on both dimensions. Doesn't sound like whatever the expected results would be to me.
I'm neither particularly masculine nor feminine overall (mentally), it depends on what's being measured. In specific ways, I'm more one or the other. Personally, I don't find his theory explains much of anything about how I am-and I felt this way before taking the SQ & EQ quizzes. However, I wouldn't presume to try to talk anyone else out of it, if this "works" for them.

i think testosterone will explain a lot but form my own personal experience i think it is more how your body releases it that would be signs
it explains:
-why aspie girls are more often seen as "tomboys"
-why i have such hyperactive sex drives
-why i am built like i am on steroids despite the fact i only exercise lightly twice a week

High testosterone is actually in my blood. My body wants me to be a guy.

I have big biceps for a woman, and I'm rather large.
